Its cuteness doesn't appeal to me. A good picture, but I am not too fond of snakes.

The bird is either really mad or really confused. Maybe its trying to figure out what a camera does.

Looks like there was not a lot of proofreading going on. :-)

Or maybe there was, but the committee wanted the members entertained so that they would keep coming to church. I bet the ladies in the basement enticed some of the men to keep coming.

I'll try to make this concise. Nikon D500 with a 200-500 lens. Set on Manual, 1/2500th @ f5.6, auto ISO (2000), Continuous high. I shoot a 5 frame burst at a bird launching from a perch. First frame is shot @ 1/2500th, second frame@ 1/1250th, the third @ 1/5000th, the 4th @ 1/2500th, and the 5th @ 1/1250th. I'm touching nothing but the shutter. Later test shows that the camera will switch around shutter speeds on single shots as well. Anyone have any idea what's going on or do I just have to ship it back to Nikon Service and pray. The camera has not been dropped or abused in anyway.

My canon m6 mark ii did things like this too. My biggest concern was that once in a while it would automatically go from a very fast exposure to bulb. Don't know why it did this, but I suspect it has something to do with the internal camera computer overthinking a situation. It should not be doing that on manual though. It hasn't done that for a while now, and I have a new Canon r7 anyway. Waiting to see if anything like that happens with the R7. It is a strange thing. I wonder if other people have had this problem?

If she has computer and Internet access, then You Tube is a very good option as well.

Yes, and you tube might help as well with choice of camera equipment, deciding what type of photography one might like to do, and fitting the equipment to that type of photography. I do strictly landscape, which requires a little bit different lenses and lighting than say, portrait photography. Not that you can't do both. But for specifics....

Folks - I raised this subject a few years back and thought I’d give it an encore. UHH has 2 sections for members to post pics - Photo Gallery and Photo Analysis and posting constructive criticism in the first is frowned upon. I think this rule does a disservice to photographers looking to up their game.

I often look at posts in the Gallery and too often see, sorry for the blunt language, just awful photos. I’m not talking about subjective matters. I’m talking about pics that are out of focus, poorly exposed, with wildly tilted horizons (not done intentionally for artistic purposes), badly post processed or overprocessed, poorly composed with telephone poles growing out of heads, etc. or any number of other technical (NOT subjective) flaws.

And most times, well meaning members post, “Great set”, or “Nicely done” or other “ attaboys” in an attempt to not hurt another member’s feelings. I see this as counterproductive and reinforcing bad technique by poster. I ask how is a member to develop better photography skills if, I again apologize upfront, technically terrible pics are displayed and followed by lots of gushing platitudes?

Last time I mentioned this, I was slapped down by numerous members who argue that unless a poster requests constructive criticism, nothing negative should be said. Ok - I’ll buy the “If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing” idea, but gushing over bad stuff does harm to the poster too. If the pics are bad, say nothing. Stop reinforcing bad work.

Just a suggestion to those posting to the Gallery in the future - think about soliciting criticisms so you can improve your work. Sure you will get many nasty, snarky and often incorrect replies from a certain subsection of members, but you will also get many great suggestions for improvement offered in a polite, constructive manner. I’ve been a photographer for 55 yrs and I welcome all well meaning and civil critiques. We are never too old to learn a new trick.

Anxious to see the replies to this rant.

Funny thing, when I was in, all I could think of is, "How soon can I get out?" After going through what I went through in civilian life, I think, "why didn't I stay in?"
