Something to think about: Which setup would give you the fastest lens? You will be on a moving ship. Whales and bears will generally be moving. Eagles will be either perched or flying (fast). So chances are you will be shooting between 1/800 to 1/2000 sec. What will your ISO be pushed to? Will you stop down a bit to get a bit more DOF ? I have a 200-600mm that I shoot a lot of birds and critters. But if I was going on the cruise I would take my Sony RX10m4. Smaller, lighter, easier to cover during rainy days. Yes: expect rain and or mist during your cruise. I use to have a Canon SX50 it was almost as good as the Sony. I would highly recommend any of the long reach bridge cameras vs taking 30lb of camera gear.

I love my Sony RX100v . I have recently looked into the Sony HX99 for more reach but you give up a bit of image quality. But they are still better than a cell phone. The Sony RX100v and RX100vii are a bit pricy. The HX99 is reasonable. Both are slightly larger than a deck of cards.

If the weather is good: Take there cruise either through College Fjords in Prince William Sound. Or if wildlife is you thing then take the cruise through Kenai Fjords. You get glaciers and wildlife in Kenai Fjords. Other wise take the train to Denali or Fairbanks. Wingpilot has a good idea too. Enjoy the Great Land.

How about a Rolleiflex SL35E with Rollie 50mm F1.4. Tamron adaptol 28mm and 70-210mm . I also have a Minolta Maxxun 7000i and Minolta Dynax 5 . Both have the Minolta 28-100mm. I also have the Minolta flash.

Good show. I don't think my dad or my wife's dad could have watched it because it would have brought back too many memories. When I was in the Boy Scouts in the 60's most of our leaders were WWll vets of all services. The Army, Marines and Navy all had stories to tell around the campfires. But the Fly Boys rarely talked about the War. My Dad flew B17s and after his required missions was sent back to the states to train on the B29s as did my wife'd dad. He did not talk about the war. His worst memory was that he lost 4 of his crew after the war was over. They were killed in a jeep roll-over coming back from a night on the town. One of the better points of the show is that they give credit to the crew chiefs and ground personnel. They are the guys that kept the planes in the air. The photos in Dad's scrap book tell the stories.Shot up planes, plooms of smoke from crashed planes. I flew B52s and we had it good compared to those WWll vets.

Having started photography back in the 60s and having both a BFA and MFA in photography, I have trained myself to see the subject in both B&W and Color. My preferred method is to use my B&W converted Sony a7ii and filters. Mostly the red, orange and green filters on the lens. There are times that I don't have that dedicated B&W camera with me. In that situation I will shoot in color and then convert in the computer. I use either Apple Photo program or ON1 to convert to B&W . I don't use the B&W switch in the camera or filters when shooting in color. You have more control by shooting in color and then converting in post processing. You may ask "why a dedicated B&W Camera"?. It gives higher resolution than a PP color image. But the main reason is that the final results emulates the quality of films of days gone bye like Tri-X, and Panatomic-X . I have used Fuji cameras and shot images with their B&W film emulations. Fuji does an excellent emulation in the camera. Enjoy shooting in B&W.

I usually buy (when it's on sale) Tillamook since it is a local Oregon company. It's good stuff. So is their cheese. Especially the smoked cheddar. If anyone ever visits the Oregon Coast they need to stop at the Tillamook Cheese factory right there in the town of Tillamook. But I have to admit, they don't make Butter Pecan Ice cream quite as good as the varieties from the south, you-all.
