Maybe you're doing something wrong? I can download a 20 mp 8mb picture from my camera to phone with no problem. You can set up snapbridge to auto upload a 2 mp pic. Check your settings.

Can it automatically download the 20mp, or is the 2mp that is automatically downloaded, but you can go into SnapBridge and select photos to download and then it asks you if you want the original size? Or an you set it to automatically download 20mp?

Ok, I may have to retract some of what I said, I was playing around with my new little camera tonight outside taking pictures, my phone was in the house, I came in and was going to load my pictures from my camera to my phone...all the pictures were already there! I was very surprised, not to mention pleased!

Yes, my phone can be sitting right next to the camera and it says that it can’t connect, that the device may be out of range....do I have to install the phone inside the camera, or what!

Pretty much seems that way! Not really sure why Nikon has decided to use that in their newer cameras. I would prefer to use the WMU app that I use with my D7200. I just purchased a Nikon A900 as a pocket camera and it uses SnapBridge, which is very frustrating to use, not user friendly in the least.

I’m the best person I know for overthinking. I’m going with the D7200. Last night I was shooting with a new-to-me lens (Nikkor 18-200 af-s vr) when the lens autofocus quit working. I’ve had that lens for 38 days and got it used off eBay. Had this happened eight days ago, I would get a full refund. Now? It should make a fine door stop.

Therefore, I’m going with a new one. I can’t thank everyone enough for all the amazing and valuable information you gave me. As soon as I take a picture worth a look, I’ll post it.

Good decision! You will love it! I did go onto the Amazon site and I saw mostly good reviews on the D7200. I, for one, give it 5 stars, I love mine!

I love my D7200! I upgraded from the D3100 after reading so many good reviews on sites that actually deal mainly with photography equipment. I like Amazon, but would not go to that mixed bag for my camera reviews! I am thinking about getting a 2nd D7200 as a backup. I mostly shoot my very active 1, 3 & 6 year old grandchildren and I also love to shoot at night by the firelight (I have gotten some really fun pictures of my oldest granddaughter blowing bubbles at night) and my D7200 keeps up with it all. 5 star rating in my book!

This forum, like so many others seems focused on gear and on sharpness, but I have seen very little about light. Photography is all about light. Most photos I have seen here are well focused, with good color, well exposed even well composed, but lacking "the light". They are mostly flat. Seems to me that "seeing the light" is the one most important ingredient of a good photo. Even the most ordinary things become objects of beauty in the right light. It would be great to have a discussion of LIGHT with examples.

Not the best, but I love firelight!

Wow, my head is spinning!

I would stay with the D7200 and get better glass. Sounds like you are already on the right track. The D7200 is an awesome camera, I love mine. If you have a serious GAS attack, then get the D500. You have gotten some great advice, and some technical jargon that makes alot of our heads spin!

I have $1000 to 1200 to spend on a camera and lense which is not a bunch. Open to all options new, used, refurbished. I would rate myself as an amateur who just knows enough to be dangerous. Just to give you an idea of what I have found on my own is a Nikon D7200 with a 28-140 lense.

I would like to have some input on a top 10 list in order of importance of what people look for in a camera and lense on a budget

I have the D7200 body and started out with the 18-140 lens. I since then have added a 35/1.8G and a 85/1.8G. I shoot similar to what you have said you like to shoot with the main subjects being my fast moving grandchildren! The 18-140 was my main lens for the first year and a half that I had my camera and it has been awesome. I have gotten some super photos of my grandchildren. I added the 35 last year for low light shooting and then just last month I added the 85, which is a great lens for portraits, beautiful bokeh and color. I also finally added a speedlight, a Yongnuo 685yn and I have to say that the 18-140 combined with the speedlight is amazing! You will love the D7200 and the 18-140 combo, then as budget allows build your arsenal according to your needs! Happy shopping and best of luck!
