I'm sure you know that modern cars are loaded with electronics that keep track of everything. I watched a video last night from a car shop that's working on a 2024 Mustang. Cars never have enough power. 😊 What he said is scary.

Basically, new cars spy on you and report back to the manufacturer. Imagine an invisible passenger riding with you all the time. But it's worse than that. It also knows everything that's on your phone, provided the phone has been paired with the car. It has all your contacts' numbers, and it can read your texts and emails even if you haven't read them yet. Basically, it knows as much as your phone knows. Did all your passengers click their seat belts? You may not know, but your car and the manufacturer know.

How about your driving? Are you weaving too much? If so, you're either tired or drunk. An alarm will sound, and it won't stop until you pull off the road and stop the car. Naturally, the manufacturer knows about this. Want to see if your car can do 100? Nope! It's limited to 80 MPH. There are circumstances in which you can go faster, but that is decided by the car. The car's camera can read! Some passengers in your car may not be able to read speed limit signs, but the car can. It knows when you are speeding, and so does the manufacturer.

As I said above, this pertains specifically to the 2024 Mustang, but the narrator said it's more or less universal. The owner's manual contains 551 pages, and most of this is spelled out in the manual. The manual also says that Ford will give information to "authorities" that request it. It also says - as all agreements do - that the agreement can change at any time.

Google knows your every move through your smart phone. The only way to stop that is take the battery out of the phone !! Oh jeez...I'm no help. Never mind....

Members will probably find this interesting. Tony Northrup always does a great job in anything photography. Learning all this technology takes time and study. Photography is just one of my other three hobbies. I didn't watch the whole video yet, but there is a lot here to digest.

It is my understanding that replies to posts in this section are expected to be not critical of an image and that criticisms of photos are restricted to the “Critique” section where posters solicit negative as well as positive comments. I understand the thinking that such a forum is designed to be a place to display work one is proud of and looking for ego stroking, but it troubles me that 3 pages of “great shots”, “ 👍s” and “well dones” in response to clearly inferior photos may do the poster more harm than good. I’m not talking about subjective analysis of a particular image. Rather I am referring to photos that are unintentionally out of focus, over sharpened to the point where the halos become the subject, unintentional skewed horizons, unintentional color shifts and other technical issues like a tree growing out of the subject’s head” that are NOT subjective. If a member posts a photo he/she is proud of looking for affirmation and experienced photographers clearly see that the image lacks sharpness, commenting “nice set” will not allow the poster to learn how to improve.

Again - I understand the desire to be supportive of such posters and the reluctance to say something “not nice” as my mother warned me not to do, but reinforcing demonstrably poor technique prevents a shooter from improving. I really don’t have a great solution for this problem, other than to say nothing in response to a post. Anyone else see this as a problem preventing growth in photography skills?

Andy Warhol's painting of a Campbell Soup Can sold for $11 million dollars. Be careful what you call art. 🙄

When you downloaded it originally, did you save it on your computer? That's what I usually do, but that doesn't always work. Sometimes, a program will install, but it will not actually download to the computer. That gives even more control to the company.

I don't suppose Amazon would give you a refund.

The whole software system stinks.

CHG_Canon Member helped me, I got it loaded in. I'm just a hobbyist, for fun. Don't need a lot of bells and whistles.
LR 6 works fine for me.

Wow !!! It Worked! Pure genius on your part, thank you.
I actually got to that same download/page earlier today. Don't even know how I got there?
Got to serial # and just stopped. Found serial # now.
Thanks again....

Shows as Lightroom 6. Don't know if that is the same as V6?
Went to my Adobe acct. with customer support on the phone with me.
Saw Lightroom 6 there. Would not load from there. Showed something like version inactive or something similar

No longer supported and no longer available are two different things.
I'm still using Elements 14, however it is no longer supported.
Not sure if the "packed" software package is still in my download folder or not.
If it is, I MAY be able to copy and re-install it on a new computer, maybe.

That's what I did. I found my Lightroom download folder on an external drive ( my main storage drive)
It started loading, then came up error. Good luck with yours.

It probably depends on what was in the purchase agreement you clicked on when either purchasing the software or installing it. It was probably a promotional price with limited long term support with limitations on licensing.

These hidden agreements which really are not hidden, are everywhere. Legally was it theft, probably not but the disclosure of terms should have been stated in clear sight when the sale of the software was offered. Unethical is the term that comes to mind both by Adobe and Microsoft.

P.S.: Keep this in mind when you buy digital music or movies on the internet, unlike a record, CD or tape, you only have limited rights that are not for life. It's all in the fine print in the agreement we have to agree to for access.

I feel for you and understand your frustration and anger.

This, " We no longer support" is an interesting hustle. I had to retire a printer and phone because of that. I think I'll sell cars for a living, hit the kill switch after 2 years, then everyone has to come in and buy a new car every 2 years. Amazing business plan.

What version did you purchase? Where is your CD and / or download file(s) for the day when you needed to change computers and re-install? There are probably some files available to help or still ways to get the purchased software from Adobe again, but you need to provide more details beyond your complaint post.

I actually found the download file in my downloads on an external hard drive. Would load then come up error like the link in my Amazon Library. I think it's the end of the road for the version. Adobe support walked me through a download, but it would not work for them either. She said that version is decommissioned.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll do some looking around, see if I can piece it together.

I bought Lightroom outright in 2017. Went to download it in my new computer from my Amazon library and it wouldn't load. Adobe Support told me that version has been decommissioned. Now I have to pay monthly if I want it. I'm no lawyer, but isn't that called " theft."?

I bought Microsoft Office 2013. Contacted Microsoft, " You bought it son, it's yours, here is the download for the new computer."
No problem, but Adobe?
