Mirror slap my a.. I miss the solid "thunk" of my Nikon F, but not enough to go back to film

I get plenty of thunk with my Nikon D850. In fact, it's a much "thunkier" thunk than the sound of my Nikon D810. If I want to feel my Nikon FTn at any time, I can pull it out of the closet and thunk it all day long, but I'm not going to put film in it again and waste time and money.

While the level and impedance of a headphones jack output isn't ideal for a line input but it would work just fine. Jerry wanted to use the headphones jack to feed the FM transmitter line input but not muting the speaker. To do that he would have to open up the unit and solder in a jumper (well 2 jumpers for the L and R channels.).

It doesn't seem like a serious limitation. You'd still hear the audio on the radios picking up the FM signal.

Sorry…120 film, of course. It was a typo. Thanks for the input.

The Epson V600 is reasonable for 6x6 film. It's mediocre for 35mm film. The size of 6x6 negatives overcomes the main limitation of this scanner which is mediocre optical resolution, which is not the same as the DPI you use to scan.

Also the headphones jack isn't a good output jack. They are designed for different impedance and level. But you can buy a bunch of FM radios and have all of them tuned to the same frequency.

You can buy an attenuator cable that converts the headphone voltage to an appropriate voltage for a line input. There are several variations on this. Some even tell you the amount of attenuation in decibels. This one has a male end for the line input.

If you buy it and need an RCA input, this adaptor will work.

Really? You cannot come up with something original like your own thoughts?

I was dumbfounded when I read this reply. So in your mind, if I post a recipe for a cake or a book recommendation, I should instead come up with my own recipe or write my own book? If I post a link to a performance of a musical composition that inspires me, I should instead write my own music? If I post a joke, I should instead make up my own joke? Really?

There is an excellent biography of Frank Zappa on Amazon Prime. The rental price today is 98 cents. Well worth it.

Despite dark skies and drizzle on our first day outside Mobile, the rain slacked up in time for our visit to Bellingrath Gardens. We just missed the peak of azalea blooms, but one could easily see how magnificent the gardens would be had we been a week earlier. If you should plan a visit, the 2nd or 3rd week in March is best for peak color. We were there the 4th week.

I think you captured the place very well. Excellent pictures. I'm glad to see that the recovery after Hurricane Frederic in 1979 is complete. Many of the trees were flattened by the 130mph winds. I would not hesitate to recommend that anyone visit this beautiful spot. Spring is the best time for flowers and to avoid the summer heat.

Please excuse my rant....but I'm really getting fed up with some people (okay...more than some) can't seem to contribute anything helpful. Maybe that's why I like coming to the UHH. For the most part everyone is as helpful as they can and when it warrants or in Chit Chat..funny.

While we were in the moving process and after we moved to Florida I was in some groups about moving to Florida. I put up with the negativity then because I was looking for information. Now that we've moved I'm there to help those looking to move to Florida. Unfortunately, there are a number of nabobs of negativity who have to complain about how bad they have it in Florida, be it traffic, the heat, bugs, or whatever. Then telling people not to move to Florida for whatever reason they have.

I've already left a few of them because of this....but it still frustrates me. Yeah...I know I'm old and this is what the inter webs has become.

Please resume your normal programming.

Some people here have to say something contrary about everything. Apparently they have nothing else to do. Go fishing or just enjoy a boat ride. Enjoy the sunshine. Be thankful that you don't have to shovel snow. Best to forget about it. Nothing is going to change. Nothing from strangers is worth getting upset about.

The 1TB WD drive in now one of my photo archive back-ups and is kept in a fireproof document box stored in my gun safe (it gets updated every couple of months).

I might suggest keeping one backup offsite, either keeping a physical disk somewhere outside of your house or putting your photos in the cloud. "Fireproof" safes are designed to keep documents from burning up in a house fire. Believe me, if you house burns to the ground, it will get hot enough in your safe during a prolonged fire to risk damaging electronic devices.

I bet you can tell the difference in certain prints.

Sure, but I don't make prints large enough to see any difference from a normal viewing distance. I shoot a wall hanger on occasion, but the biggest prints of my photos in my house are 12x18.

My sister, wife, and I went to Gulf Shores Alabama for four days. We took along our Electric bikes and rode them every day in the park. We saw Gators on 3 of the 4 days.I did not count the babies in that count.

This is an amazing picture. I grew up on Mobile. I spent many, many days at Gulf Shores growing up. I never saw an alligator there. I did see a couple in the bay when we visited the Battleship Alabama. They were filming Under Siege on the ship when we visited. Some people came up to us and asked if we were with the film crew. (It should have been obvious that we weren't. We had kids with us.) My wife said, "Yes. I'm the alligator advisor."
