Despite dark skies and drizzle on our first day outside Mobile, the rain slacked up in time for our visit to Bellingrath Gardens. We just missed the peak of azalea blooms, but one could easily see how magnificent the gardens would be had we been a week earlier. If you should plan a visit, the 2nd or 3rd week in March is best for peak color. We were there the 4th week.

Delightful. Thanks for the timing tip. I was there as a child and have always wanted to return. It’s a beautiful, serene place.

Lovely all, I like the red bridge reflection completing the circle.

I think you captured the place very well. Excellent pictures. I'm glad to see that the recovery after Hurricane Frederic in 1979 is complete. Many of the trees were flattened by the 130mph winds. I would not hesitate to recommend that anyone visit this beautiful spot. Spring is the best time for flowers and to avoid the summer heat.

It was, indeed, Kathy! It would be worth the return for peak color.

Thanks, Bill. Since my buddy opted to rent the motorized chair to protect his hip, I took full advantage of it by putting my DSLR in the basket--sure glad not to have it around my neck for the 1.5 mile stroll! Otherwise, these would most probably have been all phone shots, lol.

I appreciate the compliment, therol! I had no idea the gardens had sustained such damage previously. What a huge loss to the region it would have been to have such an historic place damaged beyond recovery, as so many of the old homes along the coast were.
