Incredible rock formations, beautifully captured. Especially love #2. Yeah, I never quite got the appeal of black and white generally speaking (though of course there are exceptions), and with a location full of beautiful color, I think b&w is not the way to go.

Greetings, Hogs

I’d like to get feedback for recommended custom shooting settings for bird photography. I recently upgraded from a Canon 60D to a Canon R10 mirrorless body. The 60D had only one possible custom setting. I used it for birds in flight and set the shutter speed at 2500, used all the autofocus points, Servo AF mode, auto ISO, and of course high-speed continuous shooting. (I used only the center AF point at first, but found it too difficult to get that one point on the eye or head of a bird in flight.). I was generally happy with my results. Now with the R10, I take the same approach but for C1 I am using 1-point AF, eye detection, animal setting. I’ve been happy with the results so far, but welcome any thoughts on tweaking these settings to improve my BIF shots.

With my upgrade, I now have a second custom setting option available, C2. I’m looking for ideas for C2. I shoot a lot in Av at f/5.6, and Tv at 1000. But it’s easy enough to just switch to those modes when I need them. What are some ideas for a second custom shooting mode for a bird photographer?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Shot again today. No JPEGs on card or upon import. The problem certainly seems to have mysteriously disappeared.

Perhaps every screen where one chooses a setting is shown, but not these. These two clearly seem to be designed to teach beginners. They require a screen touch to dismiss, which is annoying. This is why I am assuming one can turn those off. But I can't see how. I did word searches in the manual and came up empty.

Of course I had downloaded the manual, although I confess I didn't look for the answer there before posting. Like many manuals, the technical writing sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. And often I cannot find the answer or issue I'm looking for and find it easier to google. Taking your queue, and looking at the manual starting at p. 179, I cannot find the answer to my question. Nor do I find it in the Creative Zone chapter when Av and Tv are explained. I also cannot find the answer by googling in this case, probably because I'm not using precise enough language. Care to provide a more specific hint? Or answer?!

Just got an R10 and am getting up to speed. Bit more of a learning curve that I expected coming from my 60D. Here's a question that I assume has a simple answer. Every time I switch to Av or Tv, I see a screen tells me I can adjust the shutter speed for "flowing" or "frozen" (Tv), or "blurred" or "sharp" (Av). I don't want to see these screens. Surely there is a way to turn them off?

Thank you.

You probably want to remember you're watching for a problem going forward, carefully inspecting your files and retaining the card content, until satisfied the problem is a thing of the past.

Good advice.

I took 106 photos this afternoon. When I look at the photos on the card, I see 106 RAW files. After importing, I see 106 RAW files in LrC and in the import folder via Explorer. So the problem seems to have disappeared. Which is great but still leaves me scratching my head re what was going on previously. And a bit nervous that the JPGE issue will return.

I will be taking some photos with my 60D this afternoon. I will inspect the files on the card before I import. After importing, I will check the files in Explorer and in LrC.
