This image fits well into the current national discussion of male-female relationships. Bondage does have a long history of sexual kinkiness but we are now into a new era and bondage will need to change--not go away, but definitely change. Maybe more portrayal of consensual bondages???? I don't know, but images like this one will be less acceptable.

Gorgeous. And I mean the photograph. The model ain't bad either. I like high-key and I like it when the subject edges don't disappear as so often happens. Very well done.

With my Sony Alpha cameras, I always use back button focusing (As I did with my Nikons). When I finally got around to purchasing a Vello radio remote release, I never thought much about it. Then the first image came back and the focus was bad. And again. And again. (Sometimes I can be a slow learner.) By using BBF, I was turning off the auto-focus triggering which is tied to the "half-push" of the shutter button.

Of course I can go to full manual, focus and that would work, but not if the subject moves and I need to refocus.

I set up the BBF exactly as Friedman recommends which is exactly as Busch recommends which is exactly as two Youtubes do. And it makes perfect sense knowing the menu switches.

So. Does anyone else have this problem? If not how do you set up BBF to avoid it?

I cannot view the RAW files from within the Windows Explorer app. All I can see is an icon. The software that came with my camera is slow and clunky, so the quickest way to manage the files is to shoot both JPG & RAW and then delete the rejects in a pair from Windows Explorer.

Go to MS Windows Support and download the Codec. MS makes one for most camera raw images. That way you can see the raw.

But to the original question. I shoot both for convenience. I sometimes have a"customer" who wants his picture NOW and wants to use his cellphone to put it on FB or another of those abominable social media. I can give him the jpeg right away without waiting till I post process.

Otherwise, no reason to have the jpegs.

Also Roberts, Cameta.

If 42nd St. has it at any given price, check to be sure that's not just an empty box. Another $200 and they'll throw in a camera.

I am trying to get a new PC working, as my old one died on me. Trying to get just a few of my every-day programs installed has been a nightmare so far. The biggest problem has been Thunderbird, trying to get my old data across... The biggest issue right now, is if I uninstall a program to try a clean install, it comes back with the same wrong settings as before. I am stuck, and need to talk to someone who has a clue. I don't want to clutter up the list with this, but if there is someone who has a bit more in-depth knowledge than I have, who would be prepared to chat with me, either through the message system here, or by email, or even phone, I would be extremely grateful...

Another problem is that I have been using Clipmate for probably 20 years now, and all my passwords and serial numbers are stored in its database. When I installed the program on here, it defaulted to a new empty database and I have been unable to get it to look in the right place. I have sent a couple of messages to their support email, but there is no reply yet, and I am not sure how active the company is anymore. Their website is still in place, but there have been no apparent changes, or program updates in several years. It can't be a great moneymaker for them, and I don't know if they do anything else. In the past when I have had issues, tech support has been very quick to respond. Crap - I thought they were in the UK and so wouldn't be affected by the holiday weekend, but according to their site, they are actually in NY, so I guess that is why I have not had a response yet! It also means that they may still be around, but just closed for the weekend, which is a bit reassuring, rather than being defunct!

Anyway, my request for general help still stands. I have been working on this problem for 2 days now, and getting basically nowhere. My usual go-to for tech help is currently in hospital, undergoing treatment for cancer, and obviously I am not about to bug him. I don't even have anyone to talk the matter through with, in case I am missing something obvious...

So, I throw myself on the mercy of the Hog!
Thanks.

Thunderbird.

By default, everything is stored in the Profile. That profile is stored in "Appdata, roaming, Thunderbird". (You will need administrator privileges, and change the file explorer options to show all the system files.) You can install TB but then replace the new profile with your old one. You must copy over the profile.ini file as well. I've just been going through the same thing with my new Dell 8920. This profile copying method worked perfectly.

Hi Vinnie,
Apparently you use Windows backup for the operation. It can be configured for incremental or full backups and other options. I suspect it is doing a full backup each time and storing it. Consequently your external lacks storage space. I'll send you a PM on how to change that. I'm a bit short of time right now, but will do it later today. It is not difficult, just necessitates a few steps in Settings.
Mark

I won't duplicate Mark's comments which sound correct to me. Do use differential backup. You don't need full backups. I was using Acronis, but had problems with a restore and their tech guy accidently partially erased a key backup file. I switched to Novastor which works beautifully. They've got a sale on right now for $29.95.

I second Young's books. When I discovered his book on the D90, I wound up with a much better camera. Similarly with the D7000. He is the better writer of third-party camera books.

I read many posts from folks here who like these programs. Are you still loving them? I want to get one or the other. I've been watching YouTube videos too. Still undecided. Your comments are appreciated.

I have been using Affinity for the past year. The only drawback is the lack of something like Bridge to help me cull my work. Otherwise I love Affinity. Someone suggested ON1 Raw. I just downloaded it and it does have that capability, but I haven't had a chance to see how well it works. However, I will. I will be very happy if it plays well with Affinity. After more than 20 years of Photoshop, I was glad to find Affinity Photo. Much less awkward, better programming, some of the tools work much better (I'm always amazed when I have an old Mexican church facade with a bunch of electric wires marring the image. The in-painting brush just makes them disappear with no artifacts. Much better than the similar tools in PS)

What image has "younger girl in bikini"?

No, I don't want to nor have I ever shot nude pictures of someone underage. It is easy to be misunderstood in written language; that's seems to be the problem here. Someone raised the topic of models being too young, and I was thinking about the middle 1980s when several books were published, and even movies made, with nude people younger than 18. I know very well the laws forbid that now. But I was thinking the laws must have been different then and wondered what happened to change them. A particularly bold book? an exhibit? I know that state laws forbid underage models, but I didn't know there were federal laws. Again, I wonder if some scandal caused a federal reaction, or was it more a cumulative problem? I first became aware of the New York laws when a photographer advertised that he would only photograph child models if...and then he gave a long list of restrictions. He pretty much said he wouldn't photograph kids unless they were wrapped in blankets with their mothers holding their hands. I figured the laws must be really strict for him to be so meticulous.
What image has "younger girl in bikini"?... (show quote)

The case in point is David Hamilton. He spent many years shooting photos of children in the transition years. They were very sensitive, usually semi-nudes. Definitely not porn, but sensitive to the feelings of being girls and boys of 10-13. Hamilton's work was famous and acclaimed. Not really sexual at all, but sensitive/sensual. His books disappeared from the market all of a sudden. No intelligent person would ever look at his images as pornography. But in our messed up society, there are many who cannot distinguish between nudity and sexuality, between art and pornography. Some time in the 1980s, the troglodytes in Congress passed these draconian laws which catered to the prejudices of those who were afraid of porn. Needless to say, but Hamilton's work just disappeared.

These are the same Walmart printer machine operators who persecuted the mother in Missouri for her photo of her two-year old daughter in the nightly bath.

I have a Nikon D3100 and would like to upgrade as I’ve had this camera for about 7 years. This is a great camera but I really want the WiFi option and I’m just ready for a new camera. I would like your opinion of this camera please. Also, Ritz Camera has it on sale now for $829 and I’m seeing it much higher at other retailers.

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving!

Wonderful camera. Do check with Cameta. They give a year warranty on Nikon factory refurbs. Call and ask for Enzo. I've purchased several cameras from them. Not sure the D7200 has the built in WiFi. Just can't remember. But the Toshiba Flash Air card does a great job, if not.

Alternatively, consider purchasing a sony a6300 refurb at about the same price. It does have the built in Wifi. I love mine and gave up my Nikons for it and it's brother a6000.

This video touches on my complaint about so many videos on the internet. What's wrong with it? The audio is, as our English friends might say, bollixed up by bad technique. Now I'm not speaking of his English accent. He is entitled to that, at least as much, if not more than I am with my American one. No. I'm talking about the reverb from the walls and ceiling, the ambient noise and his less than careful pronunciation. He speaks in rapid bursts without clear enunciation. Much of what he says is unintelligible. He should have been close miked with, at least, a lavelier microphone. And he needs to slow down and smooth out his delivery. His constant shifting from the video camera to the monitor screen made it even worse.

Not that he is the worst. I'm a pilot and I enjoy watching Youtubes of RC model planes and, despite myself, occasionally drones. The people who make the videos are often much worse. But a photographer, working in his own studio, ought to do better.

I just want to make sure I'm correct about the guideline to use a shutter speed at least as fast as your focal length for handholding. I would assume that if your body has a 1.5x crop factor, the guideline for a 300mm lens, just as an example, would shoot at 1/450 (or 1/500), not 1/300. Correct?

Thanks and have a great Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving yourself. Do not let yourself be bamboozled about "crop factor." Crop factor is a marketer's construct that has no meaning. It was a way that the Canik marketers thought to communicate to us 35mm film troglodytes. They thought we were too stoopid to understand.

The lens focal length does not change no matter what camera it is on. Neither does the aperture or shutter speed. The ONLY difference is the angle of intercept that covers the sensor. That may lead to some secondary differences like DOF effect. In theory (and occasionally in practice) the larger sensor's pixels will carry more information. Usually it won't make a practical difference but sometimes it does.

I went on the net and they seem to have a decent reputation. However, I value your input and appreciate if you'd share your experience with me.

I ordered a lens from them via eBay. The ad said Sony e-mount. Turned out to be an A-mount. They took it back, no question, no trouble. Haven't needed anything since, but from that experience, I will have no problem ordering from them again.
