The vast majority here will say that the only camera worth buying is the Nikon D850 and screw drive F mount lenses.

That or the Z9.

Very easy to spend someone else’s money.

You can take them, but without a signed consent, you can not sell, or use for mineral purposes. The point of this is the old law that denies your right to photograph.

I get that. The key word here is "sell" or, in other words, "profit" from the photos in any way. Not used for personal gain is another way of phrasing it.

Anyone wishing to do street photography in Clovis, California should talk to the authorities first to avoid a misunderstanding and pray you talk to the right person.

Why? I am familiar with Clovis, it's about 15 minutes northwest of Fresno. It shouldn't be necessary to "talk to the authorities" there prior to going around town with your camera. Federal law hold that there is "no expectation of privacy" when "in public view". As you know, anyone can photograph anyone doing anything anywhere, providing that it is in a public space. Period. Simple. Permission is not required. The only possible exception would be if the subject is a minor child. Even then, public space is public space. Still, obtaining the parents' permission might be advisable.

You asked for a correction, we'll give it to you. Brands that change their lens mount, now including Nikon, allow for such a differentiation. Although lenses from the film era of cameras now can be adapted to mirrorless digital cameras, their mirrorless-mount lenses cannot be adapted to SLR-style bodies. Also, as stated repeatedly, digital mirrorless bodies tend to enable non-electronic film-era lenses in ways that make them better than they ever performed on legacy film or DSLR bodies.

Not really answering the question. I asked if there was such a thing as a "digital" lens as compared to a "film" lens and I still say no there is not. Not talking about "mirrorless", since not everyone has jumped onto that bandwagon. Just comparing SLR to DSLR, and not looking at the lens mount at all, is there any significant difference in, for example, a 50mm f1.4 AI-s and a 50mm F1.4 AFS, other than the "AF" part, of course. Considering only optical differences.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe there is any such thing as a "film" or "digital" lens. A lens is a lens, am I wrong on that? I've used older "film" lenses such as 5he 50mm f1.4, 105mm f2.5 and 180mm f2.8 and they work great.

The 180mm AI Nikkor I have, on the other hand, is absolutely killer. On a full frame digital Nikon. Much the same as it is on a film body Nikon.

A few years ago, my local (one of the few that are left) camera shop had a mint-condition 180mm f2.8 in their "used" display case. I inquired about it, and the owner said, "Take it home, play with it for a couple of weeks and, if you like it, I'll make you a deal.".

So, I did exactly that. The sharpness and color rendition were mind-blowing. Because the AF was "screw-drive" on my D7200, it wasn't the fastest focusing, but I can live with that, as I came up not ever having AF, so big deal.

Long story short… I told my wife that I had to call the guy the next day to pay for the lens. I really wanted it. He was asking, I believe $425 (that was on the tag), and I figured he'd take a little off, maybe throw in a filter, I didn't know. So, my wife hands me her phone and shows a copy of the receipt as she'd already bought the lens for me. What was the "deal"? I was amazed. $240. Lowest I've seen on KEH for a "mint" or "like-new" copy was $380.

I just tried to enter an order for a Nikon lens at MPB , the first in a couple of months. I found that they have changed their website radically. When I tried to enter the final payment, there was no response fom the designated payment box. Then when I triied to send them an e-mail asking for help, I found that they have made no provision for a customer initiating an e-mail to them for assistance. Has anyone been able to contact them via e-mail?

Trapper1

Bought only one lens from them. Never had any problem with contacting them.

Years ago, 1971 to be exact, a professor I had in college, teaching photography taught that the moon is reflected sun light and exposure is the same as bright sunlight!

Yes, that's the key. After 40 years of trying to get Moon photos, I finally figured that part out! Yes, expose for daylight!

When did Amazon change from "Refurbished" to "Renewed"? What, exactly, does that mean, "Renewed"?

When I bought my Nikon D7100 several years ago, not only was it a "Black Friday" deal and cost me much less than a new D90 would have, at the time, but… the listing specifically stated "Factory Refurbished by Nikon". Figured I couldn't go wrong. When I got the camera, I could not tell that it wasn't brand new, other than the shutter count of 599.

I don't think you can add more later. That used to be the case but not any more.

Not the the current M1/M2 MacBooks, but you can with the one I have, which was still an Intel Mac. One of the main reasons I bought one even though the M1 models were coming out a month or so later.

Unless you're using your camera in a church or library, or in a theater shooting a dramatic stage play, I don't see why a camera needs to be so "quiet". If you shoot mostly outdoors, to me the camera noise is a non-issue. I do fire photography and there's enough other noise from fire vehicles, helicopters and other aircraft that nobody will ever hear the camera. Even for those cameras that have a "quite shutter" mode, like my Nikon. D7100/7200, you're still going to hear it.

I am going to get a MacBook to use for photo editing when I am away from my main home. Should I get the 16 inch pro or is the 14 inch pro large enough to use Lightroom and ps with. Also, is 16 ram enough or do I need the 32 ?

My last MacBooks have all been 13" models, from the white plastic MacBook to the latest (as of that time) MacBook Pro. But three years ago, I decided to get the 16" model and glad I did. I only got "middle" of the three configurations, with 16 GB of RAM, figuring I can always add more later. Why pay Apple several times more than you can get it on your own? Same with the iMac 27". Base configuration as far as RAM. Cheaper to add more later.
