That skyline is downtown Chicago stretching from about Harrison St to Oak St, a stretch of about 2.5 miles.

I believe you are talking about the PCH. It is California 1 not US 1.

Thanks for the replies. MT Shooter my answers to your questions follow:

No. the camera has not been wet
Both batteries register as fully charged after charging up in the charger.
About four days from deciding to charge the batteries until I tried to use it.

On a weekend trip I tried to turn on my D7100 with two different fully charged Nikon batteries. No luck there. Normally when a battery is in the D7100 an available image count appears in the screen with the camera turned off. Therefore I think there is a failure in getting power to camera's electronic "brain". I'm taking it into the LA Nikon service center tomorrow or Wednesday. Has anybody else had this problem? If so what was the solution? thanks for your response(s) in advance.

When I was there a few years ago I had my workhorse 24-120 Nikkor zoom and it was adequate. If I were to go today I would take my 18-300 zoom. Granted it is not as fast as some other lenses but depending upon your camera's ISO range you may be able to compensate and it gives you a huge range. By the way, I know use the 18-300 as my walk around lens, so it should be okay weight wise. Have fun and good shooting there is a lot to see there.

Actually, my earlier post on W10 was incorrect. My Windows 10 operating system is running 64 bit. Office and Firefox and everything else is indicated as running at 32 bit in the task manager. Anybody else have this issue? If so, have you been able to correct it and how?

I have switched to Windows 10 and although it is working and seems to be faster than Windows 7 pro 64 bit. I got switched to a 32 bit operation. I have given the feedback to MS, but they have not responded as of yet. On the MS feedback pages several other people have voiced the same issue.

I really want to be operating on my Lenovo 64 bit machine as it was intended to operate. Have any of you Hogs experienced the same issue? If you have have you been able to correct it? If so, how?

Go up to the galena area. It is very much like New Zealand in topography and quite pretty. Then go into downtown galena which is quite picturesque. Then drive about fifteen miles west to the Mississippi River and Dubuque, Iowa. After that venture into southwestern Wisconsin. The areas above make for great photography

I used the Nikon 24-120 as a walk around lens for many years. I also have a Tamron 10-24 for super wide angle shots. I recently traded the 24 - 120 and old 270 Nikon and $$ for an 18-300 Nikon which I use as a walk around and retained the 10-24 Tamron for wide angle work. I shoot with a D7100 and find with the wide range ISO on the camera losing the lower f stops has not hurt my photography.
