I have been working on continual lighting and I came up with this. I will talk a bit more about it once a few people have seen it :)

That tutorial seems more applicable to videography where the camera is moving around a particular scene-panning, zooming, dollying, and or/following action and therefore a flatter ratio is desirable except in a more static close up shot etc. The values are expressed in foot/ candles as opposed to f/stops which pertains more to continuous light as opposed to flash. I don't know what you are using for you portrait lighting gear.

Meter readings will get you into the ballpark but you final settings must be fine tuned visually when you see the test results of your setup. The exact key or light ratio of your images will depend on other factors aside for the basic readings. If you are using flash in an average size room with white or light colored walls and a white ceiling of average height. there is the factor of UNSEEN SECONDARY LIGHT. You can't see the light that bounces of all the surfaces in close proximity to the subject. The modeling lamps in most monolights are not strong enough for you to actually see this extraneous reflected light. If you are using speedlights, of course, there are no modeling lamps. The unseen light will, however, affect the exact ratio. The meter used as shown in the tutorial may not include or take into its reading this extra light which oftentimes causes overfilling of the shadows and results in a fairly flat ratio.

If at all possible, I recommend that you dry run some tests, perhaps a day before the actual shoot and nail down you exposures and ratios. When you have your main light functioning as to you desired exposure and ratio, attach a string to the light stand so that you can quickly and easily maintain the correct distance at the power setting you have pre-selected. If you decide to use a fixed fill light, you can easily change the ratio by altering the power output of the fill unit- the exposure for the main light shoud remain the same.

This concept will standardize your exposures and make ratio adjustment very convenient so that you can concentrate on posing, lighting aesthetics and expressions. It won't be necessary for you to make ongoing meter readings from one pose to another or from one subject to the next. Once I arrive at the basic set up, I do make readings jost to verify that everything is working properly. Of course, ocasional chimping helps to avoid mistakes and adjustments can be made quickly.

I hope this helps! Let me know!

Nikons recent statement,

"The “Z fc 28mm f / 2.8 Special Edition Kit,” which is scheduled to be released in late July 2021, has received a large number of reservations beyond expectations, and due to the delay in parts supply, the supply amount is sufficient for release. Is not expected to be available. Therefore, we have decided to postpone the release. We will inform you of the release date as soon as it is confirmed.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to customers who are waiting for our products. We will do our utmost to deliver the product as soon as possible, and we appreciate your understanding."

Or to put it another way part shortages and manufacturing capacity shortages.

Petapixel says "Since Nikon was still fulfilling Nikon Z7 II pre-orders from last year through the early months of 2021 and the camera is still not available in stock, it is entirely likely that a wait of six months or more is not out of the question."

Maybe larrys right some of us can't wait that long :)
From all the reviews I've seen I know it would be a pleasure to use that camera, and I'm biased towards other makes.

Well CF cards are quite a bit more than pricewise than SD Cards. I might go refurb for an old Canon I have in conjunction with an SD Card in the other slot.
I'm sure most people reuse their cards, is there really any difference between reusing a card you had from new and one that my have been used by someone else?
If it's still full capacity, why not? Even better if its from Amazon, if its no good you can send it back

I don't think there is anything pure in photography different cameras have different colours some lens might be cool and another warm , contrast may be more or less just with the use of a lens hood. How the image is framed the focal length used might be a choice for a photographer or a fortunate accident. A photograph is an interpretation of a scene. It's rarely a perfect rendition of the reality and really even the reality is different for everybody, different eyesight different feelings, different interests...

So really when you pick up a camera it's entirely up to you how you use it , and the recordings that it makes. You might have a client with requirements and you can attempt to cater for these but if not... well you get to choose how you tell the story.

Crop factor is useful of 3 cameras using m43 mount i have 1.9, 2, and 2.88 crop factors this is not so much to do with m43 but sensor size.

If you are cropping an image crop factor lets you figure out the lens you should have used. If you know the rule of thirds then 4/9ths of a full frame image would be the crop of an APS-C so if you were cropping to that a 75mm lens might have been better than the 50mm used. for m43 the 2x crop essentially is a 1/4 of the framing with a full frame.

If you have an iphone with a 7mm lens is that wide normal or tele? might actually depend on which iPhone model is being used. Even knowing the sensor size you still need to estimate the crop factor. You don't really need to know what a 50mm lens looks like on full frame. You probably know what it looks like on your system.

Pentax has been amazing. Back when it was simple, solid and very basic, it held a very secure spot in the marketplace.

How it descended to virtually unknown while pioneering amazing performance features is a real puzzle :-(

Marketing and availability, most common are Canon and Panasonic and these days Sony too, Nikon is generally carried in "Camera Shops" along with Canon and Sony and Panasonic.

I guess the more camera focused a company is the less visible they are in the high street. Canon Panasonic and Sony do a lot more electronic devices ...

This thread is pretty much a waste of time, what are you arguing about the use of an optical v an electronic viewfinder? IBIS, Pentax has this built in for decades on every DSLR they have made.. levels are in the viewfinder if you want them. The main difference really is battery life you are using more battery not taking photographs with mirrorless cameras.

To be fair its the photograph that matters not the technology used to get it so use what you have. Whats more important is using the right lens with the best focal length for your photo. If you are cropping a lot it's probably not the ideal lens. Even 8 Megapixels can be enough if you are using the entire frame, 50 megapixels will let you crop in and get the photo you didn't take...

Don't talk do, and stop leaning on technology as a crutch for your failings as a photographer. Practice, practice, practice. The camera doesn't have the capability to compose the shot, thats your part, work on that.

Not terrible. Hadda quit it ... too stressful ;-)

Thanks for watching, it has a lot of problems to solve the white balance is off and the speedbooster makes for a blue spot in the centre of the frame. My focus was pretty bad most of the time. It was my first go outside of my backyard. It started raining too and my gear isn't weatherproof!

But hey i've seen worse , and made worse :)

Ok I went out today and instead of taking stills i made a little video. It's a bit rough in places but maybe it gives a sense of what you can do these days. Before digital who could afford to buy enough film and process it. Now we have an affordable option.

There had been. Older models as you say. But both still and video features have improved. For Nikon Df has no video. Pentax K-20 and earlier have no video. Likely all still only models would only be had used. Oh, a high end Leica may be still only, check. But $$$$!

Nikon DF kinda has Video, it's possible to record the live view 1080p30 , the camera has no inbuilt ability to record video but it can be recorded unfortunately there is no clean feed. Most camera's with live view have video out, If you look through an EVF you are looking at Video

Hi All I own a modular Gimbal from Feiyutech
These photos are just a proof of concept for using the follow focus off the Gimbal. Since the head and handle detach from each other it becomes possible to move the QR plate from the Gimbal head to the tripod head. There is a collar that connects the Gimbal head to the Gimbal handle. What i'm hoping to do is get this new cap made so the cable which now plugs into the Gimbal plate can plug direct to the handle. The software for this already works wired and wirelessly. You can do this already if you mount a 2nd camera on the gimbal to balance it and run the usb c cable from the gimbal plate to the focus motor on the camera thats on the tripod, but obviously this is a better option if i can get them to make it. A secondary benefit is that the caps help protect the interface between the handle and the head. The full version would have caps for both the gimbal head and the gimbal handle with a comms cable between them. You might just have the head on a mini tripod or a slider. One of the things the software can do is object tracking by mounting a smartphone to the cold shoe of the camera this would make for interesting shots from a slider with a much lower centre of gravity than would be the case normally. also the comms cable would allow you to have a boom or jib with the head at one end and the controls at the bottom. Hope you like this concept.
