Ok here's a morning vent....

I've got friends who love their Oly's and I will admit to liking the OM-1 in the day....and they are great camera's...but what is it about m4/3 shooter who always have to qualify their lenses with the statement "Shot it with a ###mm lens but it's really a ### in Full Frame". I for one, don't care to hear about the ff equivalency. I just like the image. On recent shoot with another Oly shooter, he had a new lens and I asked what it was...his answer it's a ###, but really it a ### at FF. Like I cared? a much simpler answer would have been it's a Zuiko blah blad......

Honestly 4/3 shooters be proud of your system no need to alibi your lenses to it's FF equivalent....LOL next time someone ask me about my Forester I'm gonna say it's really a Ranger Rover under the hood....

the equipment, iso, lighting, camera shake, DOF and viewer perception determines the max size of an acceptable print. If all one wants is 4x 6 prints then who cares. On the other hand a 24 x36 print may require a few more pixels

Indeed, My OLY cameras are great and produce great images. One great feature is the small size of the lenses.
My 100-300mm Panasonic lens is quite small and easily hand holdable. The new OLY 100-400mm with its teleconverters is perhaps truly revolutionary for the bird and nature folks. It is not cheap but much cheaper and lighter than its competition. I use OLY for close up and macros as it gives better results. Incidentally, 8 x 10 view cameras are super for landscapes. It is also true that bad images are taken with all kinds of cameras,

Maybe, just maybe, its trying to be courteous and informative.... Everyone seems to have succumbed to the full frame craze so its just a simple reminder. If this bothers you just ignore it.... BTW, I would luv a new Forester but my wife's pristine 18 year old LL Bean edition Outback will have to do...

Do you know why? Because it's full frame so it's the standard all others are measured by including formats that are larger than it.

Some people don't like the expression "full frame" but the simple fact is it's becoming part of the universally understood vocabulary through common usage. The list of people who use that expression include camera manufacturers, the media, instructors, reviewers etc. Those that don't like the way that expression is used will find that they're trying to resist an irresistible tide.

The same is true of the "full frame equivalent" focal lengths. They are used to describe the lenses on all sorts of small sensor cameras because it's a widely understood common reference. Since that reference has been in use since the days of film, the current generation of mature photographers (the main influencers) can relate to it, so it's probably going to be around for some time to come.

I am the one who don't like the term full frame used for the 24x36mm format but since it's called full frame it's the standard.

Oh RG that is something I don't want to do. Go with the flow. I was taught by my father not to do so. If I asked him for anything it's OK but if I wanted it because the others have it then I would get severe punishment.
He wanted me to lead not to follow.

I can see the desirability of having commonly understood terminology. I don't have to compromise anything to go along with that idea. If what your father was opposed to was compromising your individuality then I agree with him.

Just to be clear, you really don't want to compare your Forester to a Range Rover. Your Forester is a blimp...light, practical and filled with Helium. The Range Rover is more of a Zeppelin, cumbersome, flashy and full of Hydrogen just waiting to explode. LOL
