I'm not as experienced as most of the members here, but I have had good luck with the Sigma 18 - 250. Caught this on the side of the road.

Luck to you, this year. I've been to Yosemite several times back in the sixties, but that was long before I became interested in photography. Hope you get some great shots.

Thank you for that info. I have a sigma 18 - 250mm that works quite well.

Thank you to all. I really appreciate the help. I'll have to remember about the AF-S designation.

I was just about to buy a 50mm prime lens for a D5200, when a friend said not to get it because the auto focus won't work with my camera. This site is by far the best place to receive knowledgeable answers, so before I do anything I'll regret later. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Thank you all for my prompt answers. every time some one tells me something new, I realize the less I know. It is daunting at times, but I keep plugging away.

Thank you so much for that. It explains things much better. Being fairly new to photography, since I retired last year, I still have tons to learn and understand.

I have a D5200 w/ 18 - 250mm sigma. The wife has a Coolpix P510 w/ 4.6 - 180mm. Her lens zooms in and brings images much closer. Any specific reason for this, or is the Sigma an inferior lens perhaps? My settings? Just curious. I usually shoot in aperture priority.
Thanks,
Jim
