I wasn't sure, so I found my owner's manual. P. 47, Basic Functions item 10: The 750 II does support both HSS, and ITTL, but if I read the instructions right, it will only synch to 1/320 sec. Not much improvement over camera synch of 1/250, but I can use my SB 600 for higher speed, if needed. Scantips must have missed it, or maybe I have a newer version.

Yes, I have it in my manual too. it's not very clear what it means, so I tested the flash on my D700 which was set on 1/320sec FP. The letter "H" didn't show on the display like it says in the manual. HSS worked at 1/320sec but not above. At shutter speeds higher than 1/320 the photos were very dark almost black.
Like you I use SB 600 or SB 800 when HSS is needed.

Thank you for the explanation. I have so much to learn.

Yes, it takes a long time to master flash, i am far from it.

You can read more about neewer 750ii flash here :

Do I need High Speed Sync ? I don't know what its for. I'm new to using a flash.

High Speed Sync (HSS) is when you use your camera with flash at a higher shutter speed than the camera’s native sync, which is in most cases 1/250 sec.
For example if you are shooting a portrait and want to shoot wide open to blur the background. On a bright day you will end up with a fast shutter speed (much faster than 1/250th sec). For this you will need HSS.
Other than that probably you don't need it.

I also have a Neewer 750 II, and it is a good flash. My daughter bought it for me one Christmas. I have noticed:
1. It uses batteries rapidly. I always gave a spare set with me, now.
2. It is heavier than my Altura flash and Nikon SB 600.
3.It does support ITTL, and High Speed Synch.
4.Its zoom range is somewhat limited, but sufficient!

I don't think the flash supports High Speed Sync. It does iTTL.

I have Neewer 750 II for a while now and like it a lot, it's powerful and easy to use. I use it on my Nikon's on TTL mode. It even has a slave mode. I bought it for $50 on Amazon, I recommend this flashlight.

I replaced my 20mm, 24 and 28mm with Nikon 17-35 f/2.8. Its a little heavy but built to last forever. Very sharp, pleasure to use. Look for a used one in good condition, can be found for under $500.

So I purchased a D300 here on UHH. Camera looks great. Bought a Compact flash card 128GB.
When placed in the camera, it reads Full. Tried formatting but didn't help.
Could the card be to many GB?
I'm sure this is not first time this has happened and someone will know the answer.

Did you try another CF card? I think 128 GB is too much for D300, if I remember correctly D300 will work with up to 32GB and D300S - 64GB.

Friends... I'm an avid 75-year-old enthusiast, not interested in highly technical answers to this. I love shooting with my Nikon d7200, but got caught up in Fuji world. I have no trouble with my Nikon, but find Fuji a bit difficult to use. I know I know, stick with the one I love, but I do like the size of the Fuji stuff (xT3 & x100f). Your thoughts?

Nikon and Fuji are my two favorite brands. They are very different but both great. The image quality that comes from my Fuji XE-2s is amazing, Fuji lenses are excellent. When I shoot with Nikon for a while I miss my Fuji and then after shooting with Fuji I go back to Nikon.

I guess what I am trying to say is-keep your Nikon and get Fuji you like and use them both, great cameras.

Ditto! Great lens, that I use all the time for astro and landscape.

That's the lens (17-35mm f.28) I use on my FX body. For DX I have 12-24 DX f/4. Both great lenses, both use 77mm filter.

I'm a traditional photographer that has habits. I shoot with a camera that has lenses and process what comes out of them. It used to be film in a wet darkroom. Now it is Lightroom Classic because SD cards don't fit the tank reels very well. But, the workflow is familiar. My images are stored in computer folders, by date instead of sleeves by date. They are still stored by date. I have a screen with thumbnails instead of contact sheets. Instead of an enlarger, I have an inkjet printer.

A week ago I decided to step outside the box. I shot with a phone and let it store in the cloud. I wanted some arty, black and white prints of routine "parts" from my new retirement resort campus. Think valves, chains, locks, sculptures, benches, etc. They are for the next meeting of the photography club where I am the newest member. The assingment was to shoot the "inner workings" of the place.

The prints are so good that I'm pissed off. I don't want to use a phone. I don't want my images in the cloud. I don't want so much automatic processing. But I think the results are better than if I would have stuck to my old habits.

Am I too old to change? Too old to learn a new workflow? Do I mothball my cherished gear? Do I use the phone and pretend the results are from a camera?

My frustration is intense.

For me it is not only about image. For me photography also is experience. I enjoy using my DSLR's. I like the feeling, like the sound of the shutter/mirror, like the weight. I have an iPhone but use it to make calls, send text messages, read the news and ...., VERY rare to take photos. I don't care how good they are, I just like the experience of using my DSLRs. To travel light I have D5500 with some DX lenses. Paired for example with DX 35mm 1.8 it's very light. I use D700 with 17-35mm 2.8, big and heavy, but feels good in my hands and I enjoy using it.
Don't feel frustrated, use whatever gives you enjoyable experince.

...There used to be a way out of it on certain cameras, like the Fuji S5 Pro that I still have, where the JPEGS SOOC hardly need much processing. But that's only possible on CCD sensors like in the Fuji S5 Pro...

Michael, why do you think that's only possible with CCD sensor?

I have and use often my old Nikon D200 (CCD sensor), and I often wonder why after using many cameras I still like the image quality from D200 the most.

My niece is a NIKON professional and she has 2 - D700's. The original has 352,000 shutter clicks on it and the other has 95,000. She loves them and has returned D750 & D850's back to Nikon.

It would be interesting to know what is about d700 that she loves so much that she returned newer cameras. I also shoot with d700 for some time now and i like it, but once in a while i am tempted to upgrade to a newer camera.

I shot on AUTO White balance and Auto ISO. in a medium lite gym. The camera selected 11000 for one shot and 18000 for all the rest. AMAZING - Little to no grain (Noise)Great IQ and color. I am trying to wean myself off the very heavy D5 (That I love) and go to something lighter. I shot the game with the FTZ adapter and my f2.8 24 - 70mm Full frame lens I use on my D5 for Basketball. So YES the ISO noise was FAR BETTER than my D5. So I guess you can draw from that - that I got an exceptional Z50 or I have had a bad D5. In actuality, the D5 had a tuneup this last summer and does just fine till it gets to 10 - 12 K ISO then starts to show grain (Noise). Have a Happy New Year

Interesting, I read somewhere that Z50 and Nikon d7500 and D500 share the same sensor. Never heard that high ISO of these cameras as good as in D5. Thank you for the information. Now I have to think if I should sell my trusty D700 with some lenses and get Z50. Happy New Year !
