What's the best camera you can own? Answer: the one you have with you all the time so you won't miss that once-in-a-lifetime shot. I have a large collection of all types of cameras, including old film and the latest DSLR bodies and lenses....but do I carry a DSLR and lenses with me all the time? Of course not. I've taken many great iPhone pictures that I never would have got if I didn't have the cell phone camera with me. When digital first started, manufacturers thought that everybody would be printing most of their digital pictures and made a big push to sell printers. But it didn't happen. Most people today view pix online and email them around but don't print them. Cell phone cameras have better than needed quality for 98% of those picture opportunities. Some enthusiasts even today insist that film is still the only way to go to get the best possible pix. Even if that's true how many new and improved professional grade film DSLRs do you see coming on the market? I haven't seen any. As cell phone and smaller bridge cameras improve and more people buy them the market for DSLRs will obviously diminish...I don't think there's any doubt about it.

I had Verizon years ago for cell phone service, after I dropped ATT and their ridiculous charges. Verizon was great, you could change rate plans at any time. Then, they started to charge you whenever you wanted a new rate plan, charged you a service fee when you upgraded a phone, etc., etc. I dropped them like a hot potato. Went with Consumer Cellular, the top-rated cell phone service for years according to Consumer Reports. Change plans any time you want, no charge. Change phones, no charge, no b-s. Why anyone would deal with any other cell phone company I don't know....

I agree....I used to buy all my TVs from Sears....always got the best deals. Last time (several years ago) I saw their newspaper ad and (tried to) call the local Sears store TV dept. A nice lady answered and told me she was a Sears helper and that I should direct all my questions to her. In short I couldn't speak with anyone in the local store, only someone hundreds of miles away who knew nothing about the local store or its inventory. So, I bought a TV from BHphotovideo in NYC, instead. No tax and free delivery. I am surprised Sears is still in business....

If you could take all your pictures with a super wide angle lens and then enlarge a small portion to get the same image size as if you used a telephoto, then there would be no reason for anyone to buy anything other than a super wide angle lens! Sorry, doesn't work that way.

Forget it....even super high price lenses frequently come with a little bit of residue and they have no effect whatever on your pictures. Many people fret over issues like this which really aren't an issue. I have purchased numerous lenses dirt cheap because they had a small amount of scratches, scrapes, dust, dirt, etc inside and while it's a good bargaining point when buying a lens it has to be super bad to make any difference to your pictures. Having spots on your DSLR sensor may show on your pix, don't worry about a few spots inside the lens.

Amazing, isn't it? All the war criminals are always on the losing side.

It seems as though many camera buyers set out to buy a top of the line camera body and then buy cheap, aftermarket lenses for it. I've always thought that the lenses are the most important part of an outfit and (if buying on a budget) would opt for the best lenses and a less-expensive camera body. Anybody agree? Disagree?

Are these exactly the lenses you would want to buy? If they're not, then they're really not a bargain for you at any price. I think you can probably buy these same lenses used from KEH, Adorama and/or BH for the same price or less and get a warranty of 3-6 months. You will also have the option of buying exactly the lenses you want instead of just what's listed your buddy is selling.

If you're primarily going for landscape shots, take a good P&S like the Canon S120...I figure the best camera is the camera you always have with you instead of the one sitting on the shelf back home (because it's too big and heavy to carry around).

Rumor is that Canon will soon be announcing replacements for the 5D Mk III and the 6D....so, when that happens except a further price drop on the current models. I think you made a good decision on the 6D which will do 95% of what the 5D3 will do at $1000 less (MSRP) and even has Wi-Fi, which the 5D3 lacks. I'm not one who can afford to jump on everything that's the latest and (supposedly) greatest. My top camera is a 1D MK4 which has been replaced by the 1Dx and 1Dx Mk2 but is still a wonderful camera. You'll love that 6D.

KEH is the best! have no fear, buy anything from them and they'll back it up 100%. Their condition ratings are also very conservative. I've bought some items they call "bgn" and found they were in excellent condition.
