Kind words Ernie. Thank you.

Under every post that I make there is a clickable URL to a few hundreds of my photographs, mostly over the past 20 years, but a couple from the 1970's too. Just be aware that the webpage is meant to show off Barrow, not my photography. There are many not so great images because they show something seriously interesting. If you really really want to see my work, schedule a trip to Barrow where there are two or three dozen large prints of my best work on public display. (Clearly not worth the cost of the trip! But other things are, including your own photo ops in a really great place for photography!)

Are you offering UHHers a place to crash, Apaflo?
I have never been to Alaska and it's on my bucket list.
Do let me know. Cheers!

With a crop sensor body you won't be able to do much better than the Nikon 18-300mm you already have. Up the ISO indoors and it performs well. Outdoors its very hard to beat.
Most of us are all still waiting for than magical 12-1200mm F1.8 VR lens that is in the rumor mill.

Carter,
You certainly have BIG dreams. Lol
Cheers!

Nikon_DonB posted pics of his on page 5 of this thread, so I didn't bother taking pics of mine, they are the same case.

Thanks, I must have missed that.

Yes to all 3. But the weather-sealing of the D810 is at the Pro level. The D7000/7100/600/610/750 bodies all have weather-sealing but it is not designed to be used in a downpour situation like the Pro models are, they are sufficiently weather-sealed to use in the occasional rainshower though. I have used them all in light rain and never had an issue with any of them.

Keep in mind also, that having a weather-sealed camera is only half the battle, you also need to use a weather-sealed lens for full protection. Todays lenses have nearly as much electronics in them as todays cameras do.

ALL Sigma EX, S, A, and C series lenses come with nice padded cases. I do not have a photo of the case at the moment, but could take one tomorrow.
One of the downsides to Tamrons lenses is that none of them come with a case of any kind, at any price, not even as an option. I always hated that.

Thank you, Carter. I look forward to a photo of the case.

Hi, here is a simple workflow that you might find useful:

1. Copy files from your memory card to a folder on your hard drive(ideally an external drive, you also might want to save another set to a different drive as a back up). Name the folder whatever makes sense to you.
2. Open Lightroom, click the Import button and navigate to the folder you just created. Make sure 'Add' is highlighted and click Import.
3. Go,through your images to find the best for editing. I don't bother with star ratings or colors. It is easier to simply flag the ones that are the best. Tap the P key to place a flag on your photo. Tap U to remove a flag.
4. Go to filter>flagged. This will show only your flagged photos.
5. Select all (Command/Control A) and go to Library>New Collection. Call this selects or whatever you wish. Click OK. You now have a collection of only your best images.
6. After editing, select all and click the Export button. Select a folder you wish to save them in, a format(JPEG,TIFF,etc.), a color space. You can also rename them and select a size.
This is a very basic workflow that, as you gain confidence and experience using Lightroom, you will probably create one that works for you.
Good luck!

Another way to use the Auto-Advance:

In the Library Module, Loupe view (select an image from the grid and hit Return)
Caps Lock on
Allocate a star rating or a colour label
The image will advance to the next one each time a rating is allocated
Switch off Auto-Advance by releasing the caps lock

What would you recommend as a simple Workflow to adopt (I am a newbie at LR) to process and post into folders on an external hard disk?

Carter,
With the wide range of Nikon cameras you have used, are these Nikon cameras weather-sealed:
D7000
D7100
D810 ?
