Holy molly!! Brandy Wine Creek in Delaware?? That made me remember a book read to us in the 4th grade which I enjoyed so much. The book entitled "The Bears of Blue River" by Charles Major has the last chapter called "Castle on Brandywine" which was an exciting story about a camp-out in the forest making a hallowed out sycamore tree their "castle" while the boys trapped beavers, etc. during the Holliday Season.

I have heard of "Beer Gardens" and they are not gardens -- they are bars and dance halls. I wonder why it's called "Beer Gardens???" Someone must know the story-----

I'm considering buying the 85mm Lightdow manual lens for my Sony a6500. The sample images look great. Do any of you have experience with this lens?

No experience with this lens but I have the Opteka 85mm prime lens that I purchased from Masuly, South Korea (made in China) for about $100 - much better price than Canon's 85mm f/1.8 lens with auto focusing. Having a lens focus automatically is a great jump in technology!

"They are slower to work with than an autofocus lens with electronic aperture control." wrote my good UHH friend.
It is a lense very suitable for portraits where you can set it up to use repeatedly in the same environment.

I propped the camera on a fence post and waited for the lightening, and snapped the shot. I have read that it can't be done. They are wrong.

Unbelievable! Success….they were wrong.

Mark, did you use extension tube (s) to capture these fine photos? If not - what? Thanks!

Yes, Kodak was a great company producing fine cameras for the masses when all of a sudden everything came apart for them. I still have a small Kodak Easy Share Z915 that I still enjoy among the others! It was doing fine with digital development - then a great icon just CRASHED!

They will be just fine. Flash storage. Better than CDs. Nor more temporary than the cloud or external HHDs.
With the Photo Stick you are paying extra for its back up software. I wouldn't bother.
Flash storage is now preferred over standard hard drives (HHD) because of no moving parts. No spinning disk. Still okay though especially if you need a lot of storage space on a budget.
Downside to thumbdrives is they are small, can get lost and not as robust an enclosure as an external drive.
If you don't need a lot of storage space check out an external SSD -

When you say “saving” your photos, do you mean a working copy, a local backup, a disaster recovery copy or an archive? In other words, what are your goals for the storage?

When I write "saving photos" I mean just like it appears (with details) in iPhoto after I've transferred them from my camera. I don't see any other way I would save or store my photos from my camera's chip. Sorry I confused your understanding my problem.

I'd like your opinions on which "driver" to buy for my Mac OS X version 10.7.5 which has usb 2 ports. I have read about two of them so far (Sandisk Flair USB 3 Flash Drive, 128GB SDCZ73-128GB-G46, Black. Price $17.49 AND The Photo Stick - 128 GB $80, 64 GB $50, 8 GB $35.). Are these "sticks" a great idea for saving photos or not?? I don't use the "Cloud" on the Mac for saving my photos -- in the past I've used CDs but not lately. Does anyone out there have any experience with these so called Drives or Sticks?? Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Looking at adding this to my list of lenses yet would like to hear from those of you who have it and those who have chosen not to own one.

I did not buy the Canon lens you are considering; I bought the new Yongnuo 100mm F2 medium telephoto prime lens for my Canon EOS Rebel camera (it fits my Canon 5D too). The price and the research I did convinced me to buy it and I am happy I bought it. Price: $169.69--found a new one in Shen Zhen, China and it was delivered in two weeks. It pays to look around using Yahoo! and don't jump on the first ones listed. Of course I could've bought a new Canon lens for $475 also an F2 with Image Stabilization (IS) but I don't need IS for this medium lens. If you use Live View then DO NOT buy this lens, it won't work (I never use live view). The bokeh is nice on this lens as well as the asteral effect (has 9 blades). Weight:18.6 oz. Study it's features. I purchased this Yongnuo Feb. 2017. I think they also make this lens for Nikon.

I've searched this topic but still don't get the general idea. I have an Olympus Pen and would like to try some older manual lenses on it and realize I need to get the appropriate adapters to mount the lens. Now, if I put the camera in Manual mode and set the lens aperture and manual focus, do I have to set the aperture in the camera to that of the lens. ISO in auto?? Shutter speed?? Or, should I be using Shutter Priority?? I'm confused as to how the camera interacts with a manual lens. Thanks for any help.

This advice is not going to change your mind about manual lenses but I bought a Korean Opteka lens (85 mm - 1:1.8) Aug. 21, 2015. It's cost was $100, much better than Canon's much higher price for Auto focus. I use the lens for stationary shots such as portraits but it usually stays in the bag. It's easy to use on my Canon Rebel T1i/500D and the Classic 5D full frame camera. It makes me appreciate the modern method of auto focus which is much faster and convenient to focus! Cheers for Auto Focus!!! Using a manual lens is very easy except that you have to waist time focusing your subject….your equipment seems very complicated for nothing (adapters, not knowing how the lens works, etc.). Been there done that!

I understand that pressing the shutter button halfway activates auto focusing and automatic exposure metering. This allows you to focus on an object and then recompose your shot ... and I do this a lot. I have recently been told that when you recompose your shot, even though you have locked the focusing function by holding the shutter button down, when you recompose your shot the automatic exposure metering is still active and adjusts to the new composition. This makes no sense to me. Why would one function (focusing) be locked while the other function (exposure metering) be active?? I could understand that you need to focus on an object, pressing the shutter button half way, and then turn the Auto Focus button on the lens to manual (basically deactivating auto focus), then recompose you shot, press the shutter button down again to activate the exposure metering, and then taking your shot working.
I also think you can go the other way and use the AE lock button. I think this process would be to focus where the final shot needs to be taken by pressing the shutter button halfway, press the AE lock button to lock the exposure metering function, then release the shutter button and focus on the object you want holding the shutter button halfway, recompose your shot and then finish pressing the shutter button.
Looking for some words of wisdom. And yes, I know I could go to back button focusing but that seems like a new world of pain that I haven't entered yet.
Thanks for the responses.

I think you understand the process you first mentioned - isn't that enough for you to practically know? The ideas you expressed may help me in understanding why BBFocus works better for me. Anyway, I think you are already overloaded with focusing and exposures!! LOL enjoy.

I still have my 10.7.5 version iMac with 4 GB memory -- copyright 1983-2012! I love this mac. I was given a new iMac but I couldn't adapt to it unless I jumped through many hoops and hurdles ---I just gave up on it as Apple does not seem to make any better machines ---- I WILL DIE USING MY OLDER MAC!
