I got there around 10am and nothing in sight except for many ducks. Almost immediately a couple of Cormorants flew in. A few minutes later a couple of Great Blue Herons. And then the icing on the cake - a beautiful Osprey flew to a distant tree - but only for a few minutes and his head was never fully visible. It was a great morning.

Very nice set. Have you tried the Conowingo Dam or Bombay Hook. They're also very good places to catch the images you seem to seek. Bombay Hook is a bit of a schlep--it's in Smyrna, DE--but I would bet the dam is not much farther away from Paoli than where you shot along the Brandywine. Maybe it's 20 minutes farther.

Thanks very much. I've been to both places several times - I will be going again when the migration begins - in the next few weeks.

Thank you - that duck came very close to me which enabled that much detail. The other shots were much further away.

Holy molly!! Brandy Wine Creek in Delaware?? That made me remember a book read to us in the 4th grade which I enjoyed so much. The book entitled "The Bears of Blue River" by Charles Major has the last chapter called "Castle on Brandywine" which was an exciting story about a camp-out in the forest making a hallowed out sycamore tree their "castle" while the boys trapped beavers, etc. during the Holliday Season.

Strange how the memory works!! Is this the same Brandy Wine Creek??? The book I have was printed in 1938 and published by Curtis Publishing Company.

Holy molly!! Brandy Wine Creek in Delaware?? That... (show quote)

The creek runs for 20 miles - I was at a small park in Wilmington where it flows through. I don't know if this is the same creek as in the book.

Excellent set, Elliott! The detail is wonderful. Do cormorants usually perch with one leg up?

Thanks Mike. That's the first I've seen of a Cormorant like that but I've seen many other birds perching on one leg recently - I might need to read about that!

The Osprey seems to be using the foliage as a mask!
Great shots my faves are the first heron shot and the Mallard drinking. Stay well and keep up the great work.

Elliot, wonderful captures. You sure had great subjects to shoot. I really love these, from the color of the Great blue Herons to the lovely duck drinking water.

thanks for sharing.

Jim
