Thanks so much for clarifying this. I can see that I will be back and forth between the two forums, close ups and Macros, so undoubtedly I will be back for more help! Thanks again!
Thank you for your response Nikonian. From memory, the bloom was about 8cm diam. As I said I'm almost unbelievably new to this, sooo was this a close up or a macro pic? Taken with a 60mm f2.8. Macro lens. In re-reading your post, am I right in thinking that this is more a close-up, than a macro, or are we more into semantics. To be a macro, should this be set at "minimum focusing distance". In this instance, am I right in thinking that a macro pic would more accurately have been a close up pic of one of the petals?
Really appreciate your views on this, as, as I said, very new to this, you, I know, have been at this for years.
Sorry, camera is an Olympus OM-dEM5 with a 60mm f2.8 macro lens.
I took the picture the other day, and it has rained since then, but will measure what's left tomorrow! Thanks for your interest.
Nice, much better than mine. Thanks, a big help!

Bought the Olympus TG-1 recently, as it has the best serious reviews. Fast lens and works well on low light. Taking it to Hawaii in 10 days. Had a Canon G10 with waterproof canon housing. Too bulky and was always worried that camera on its own would get damaged in offshore sailing with waves.
