I’d go with Harpo and Zeppo.

LOL, it took me a minute to figure out the fuzzy math

I remember the old days (last century), when retailers gave real quantity discounts to encourage shoppers. The point of sale system applied the discount to the last item. (For example, “3 for $1” meant .38 each with the third one at .24.). That discounting seems to have disappeared, replaced by pointless quantity pricing, like “4 for $1, .25 each”.

One of the challenges in writing is to avoid constructing sentences that require that the reader understand a fine point of grammar. At best, misunderstanding just trips up the reader (What does that mean?); at worst, misunderstanding leads to a perfectly logical, alternative meaning (and a mistake or a law suit).

Should say cc company would NOT issue extra card.

Bad typing fingers. Sorry.

I use one card for all online purchases. It (and all other cards) are set to notify me by email if the card is used without actually being presented - “card not present”. A great feature pretty much now available with all cards. Plus (as noted by others) checking transactions periodically is also good, but with the increased number of on-line transactions (due to pandemic) at best I look to ensure all the transactions are from stores/sellers/sources I recognize.

Now I have to try to find my birth certificate to see when I was born. I wanted to make an appointment for the latest Covid shot, but CVS wouldn't accept the DOB I entered. When I struggled with their phone system, it accepted my DOB. After several minutes, it transferred me to the pharmacy - where the phone rang and rang and rang. That's when I tried to make an appointment online. I'll drive over there and see if they can shoot me up. Whoops! I think I used the wrong terminology.

It happens to me when I inckude slashes (or, maybe omit them, I forget which) or enter the year as 2 digits (or maybe 4, I forget which). I swear they periodically change the rules.

Locking the doors don't stop the bears, just pisses them off and they tear the doors open.
There have been many videos posted on the net of grizzlies wrecking cars for what ever.

Some years ago we were camping at Sequoia NP. Big ruckus at night. In the morning we saw what a bear had done to a big locking dumpster. The folded edge had been bent down in eight or 10 places where the bear had inserted its claws. Makes no food in the tent a must. But what to do with the people?

The decline continues. Amazon has "Hims and Hers" hair products on sale. Just like those "Idiot" and "Dummies" how-to books, I wouldn't buy those hair products because of the name alone. (Not that I have a need for hair products.)

Then there is “Ladies” versus “Men” (or “Mens” or “Mens’” or “Men’s” [or “Gents”]) in restroom labeling.

I saw this on YouTube. Find out how many companies are holding information about you. I came up with thirteen, which seems a bit low. UHH was the first one listed.

Hahaha! A story from long ago and not so far away. Pay bills by mail to avoid electronic identity theft. One day a bill was too late to mail so I called the company to pay by telephone. The associate asked me if I wanted to use the checking account I always pay from. (It’s all in their system, so no need to give them the information.). A thunderclap, piercing glimpse into the obvious: every time I used a check I was providing the account number and routing information as well as my name and address - and they were recording it electronically.

I gave up wearing hats when I left the navy. Most sailors wore the "Dixie Cup"when not working and ashore and ball caps correctly when working aboard the ship.

I started wearing hats as a result of my time in the Navy. Especially on cold days and in the rain. The joys of being warm and dry.

On an only slightly related topic. Why 4 for $1? Or 5 for$2? Maybe just to encourage the buyer to select a larger quantity? At the register it comes up at 25 cents or 40 cents apiece.

In the old days (still with UPCs, product codes, and computer price look up) there was a discount for buying the last item in the quantity. For example “4 for a dollar” meant .28 for the first three and .16 for the last one. Of course that made shelf labeling more complicated. And returns, a nightmare.

In any event … where did the “cents” symbol go?

Ours, too (in Calif). Especially when they are agitated and their head feathers stand up. We saw it listed as one of the resident birds. For years it was, “Oh sure, one was here once.”). Then we saw our first. And now, they are fairly regular. Lesson learned: just because you don’t see them; doesn’t mean they are not there.

When it ripens, that is a distinct possibility. We have some good zucchini bread recipes just for that emergency.

Around here, that happens in June and early July. One year, we planted two plants. We should have planted one... The stuff grows like a weed.

Just curious, but does the smallpox vaccine I got as a child over 60 years ago really still protect me from either smallpox or monkey pox? Seems like an awfully long time to be effective? Since they declared smallpox dead a good while back and virtually no one has been vaccinated for it since then, this leaves a whole lot of folks without any protection, but I have my doubts about my vaccination being effective after such a long time as well. Guess I need to do some research on this subject! While, I don't think the monkey pox infection numbers justify any sort of panic response, I would like to be informed on the subject as many probably would.

Seems like studies by the National Institutes of Health (with small groups) have results all over the place. 5-10 years. And up to 88 years. Probably some protection, but ….
