When you get to Roanoke, VA Maybry Mill is close by on the Parkway near Meadows of Dan. You will not be far from Fancy Gap Mountain where the Parkway runs through. My husband grew up there and his mother and father still lives there. There is a great place to stay near Fancy Gap at Ground Hog Mountain. They have small cabins for rent and great photo opportunities of the mountains. I've lived there all my life, until 3 years ago when I moved to Holden Beach, NC. I still miss the mountains, especially when I see you all talking about it on here. We used to get on the parkway on Sunday's for family picnics. Hope you have lots of fun and be sure to share your pics with us!!!!

I use it and find it easy and fun, as well as inexpensive.

I would have tried without the flash, too bright. Water capture is nice.

Thank you for looking, You are right, without the flash they would have been better. I was really aiming to capture the water drops and I am glad you thought that was nice. Thank you!!!

Thanks everyone!!! I was just curious as to what I could do without a tripod. I learned I don't really have a steady hand and I now have a tripod and should be able to do a better job!!!

[quote=donrent]Wish that would have been the only problem I've had with Picasa...
I just deleted Piccasa off ;my computer for the last time... It took complete control over "My Pictures" and in the process I lost probably 500 + pictures that dissapeared...This was NOT the first time "P" took control, but it was the most serious...

I use "Smart Photo Editor" It is about $29.00 and is very easy to use. I love it because it has lots of features that makes your photos' look very professional. I use Picasa, also and like it for removing lines, etc. Have not had any problems with Picasa. Hope this helps!!!!!

I am just learning how to edit pictures, also. What do you think of my attempt on your Bride & Groom picture?

I am just north of Myrtle Beach and we are being hammered with rain and wind gusts. So nice to sit in my warm living room and look at great pictures on UHH. By the way, my name is SANDY and I am taking a lot of grief, lol!!!!!!!

Hi Sandy:

Our family spends one week every Sept at Holden Beach. Usually at Heaven Sent on the west end of the island. LOVE IT!!

I moved from SW VA, 2 years ago and now live about 5 miles from Holden Beach. We love it, too!!!!!

I just bought a Canon 40D and would appreciate some suggestions on how to improve on the shots I took of the gator.

Very nice, you did well. I did notice that the time is off on your camera, by 12 hours I think. I would guess these were shot about noon from where the sun appears to be. Never mind, seems you corrected it on the third photo.

I would also suggest doing a tighter crop on the first photo and try to shoot early morning or in the evening. The best filter, if you choose to use one, would be a good CPL.

Enjoy your new camera. 40Ds are nice.

Thank you for your advice and comments. The pictures were shot about 12:30 and I just bought a Sunpak filter set, yesterday per the advice from Leicaflex . I also, thought the first photo needed to be cropped off the bottom, however I tried to leave the photos untouched until I seeked advice from the pros here at UHH!!!! Thanks again, Everyone!!!!!
