Because of incredible shutter lag issues (over a second...) from my drone (Typhoon H Pro), I usually shoot 4K video and use VLC to extract stills from the video file. I get great results from that, and a choice of 60 photos per second to choose from!

Apart from the big red flag of appearing, to post a single message selling something, it is somewhat of a limitation if you are restricting a sale to local people only... Why post on an international forum, where 99.9999....% of people do not meet your criteria? I think you have more chance if you walk up and down the road shouting "camera for sale!". Just sayin'...

While photographing my house before the coming hurricane, I put it on auto for walking around and under the house. I then discovered that the Back Button Focus didn't work. I had to focus by hand. Do you folks remember turning something on the lens to make things less fuzzy? Just some info for those who might try auto sometime.

I have seen reports about BBF, where the question is asked "what if I want someone else to take a picture?". Usually, the reply is that the easiest process is to set the camera to auto, which cancels the BBS. So, apparently this is a design feature, not a flaw. I use BBF all the time, but have never tried full auto - and no, I am not one of the "if it isn't full manual, it isn't a photograph!" crowd. I just prefer using Av and Tv for my settings.

Beautiful Image, LRF!

In 2015, a Friend here invited me to come to his Star Party in Joshua Tree National Monument.
We camped there for 3 days and two nights. Unfortunately, a crowd gathered across the group camping area with an RV and a ton of morons.
Big campfire, noise, headlights parading around.
But they didn't spoil my plan, try as they might.

I set up my camera on my tripod, and let the Intervalometer do the work for me. It ran all night, rhythmically clicking away, while I slept in my tent.
But the 25 seconds open, 5 seconds closed, yields 2 per minute for as long as your batteries last. (I do a 2 battery extension)
Then I go through the resulting images looking for meteoric events.

Then I make a video like this: https://youtu.be/O5hf0szmKVE

Practice... practice... practice....

Nice video - I subscribed to your channel... I had all my gear set up ready to head for my dark-ish sky site, but we have been socked in with 100% cloud cover for days. This morning it is clearer, but there is still a high haze, and killing humidity... Maybe next year!

I placed an order last week, at 10:15PM on Sunday night. Received the acknowledgement email, saying it would be delivered on Tuesday. UPS showed up at 10 AM Monday morning! Less than 12 hours! Sometimes it goes over the 2 days, but most of my stuff comes on time...

Just stumbled across this article, appropriate if you're running Windows 10 Pro

Thanks for this. Useful info, since I always did updates manually on earlier machines. I like to wait and see if people start screaming about problems with an update - same as I do for updates of Adobe CC programs.

Looks like my reply didn’t get off the ground at the last attempt Erich - that will be due to my travels.
I agree a slr would be great - but you need to be pretty confident to launch all that dough into the unknown! Perhaps try a cheap version first?

I don't know of any consumer-level drones which would be capable of carrying a dslr. If you *could* find one, it would cost a *lot* of money. As you say, it would take a lot of confidence to risk that kind of investment into the wide blue yonder... I feel nervous enough sometimes just sending the drone itself! A lot of the better drones on the market have cameras which are really quite good. The only limitation, is that they are pretty much all fixed aperture and very wide angle. You would have to spend a whole lot of cash to get a zoom lens, if indeed they are available at all.

Just for those people who get nervous about being "spied upon" by people flying drones: if the drone is close enough to get a good, recognisable picture of you, then you could knock it down with a broom! The selfie I posted earlier in this thread was taken at about 6 feet distance...

I shot this after shooting the Europa transit and was interested in the spot centered and above center that appears to be a recent impact site.
Of course recent could mean any number of years on the moon but it does look like fresher kicked up dust.
Same settings as I used on the Saturn shots but no cropping.
Jim

I agree, it certainly does look 'recent'. Like you say, it could be millions of years old, but I remember reading that there are small impacts going on all the time - all the stuff which would burn up in our atmosphere as "shooting stars" just plows straight on in there. You could be the first person ever to witness the scene of the crime!

Something I'd like to get into in the near future. With a drone, one can capture views and perspectives which would be either difficult, prohibitively expensive or altogether impossible to achieve otherwise.

Yep... Plus, it's a heck of a lot of fun!

Another test shot, extracted from 4K video, no processing other than converting to jpeg for upload...

Yours sounds like the bees knees Bloke, sort of pro standard. Embarrassing crashes it what puts me off them the most I think! I guess your ‘stills from video’ are pretty good quality?

Yeah, it saves them as full 4K resolution. I have them saved as tiff files, and will be processing through LR when I have something worth doing. So far, it has just been test images to make sure it worked. Here is one which I opened in Irfanview and saved as jpeg. No other processing at all. Not a great image, granted, but it shows what the equipment can do...

I have one, and use it quite a bit. Mine has 6 motors/props, unlike the Phantoms which only have 4. I don't have any pictures of the drone flying at the moment, though. I tend to shoot 4K video and pull stills from that, as there is terrible shutter lag when shooting stills directly. It's great fun, but you *do* have to be careful - I was shooting at a church softball match, and crashed into the 'fence' behind home plate... Somewhat embarrassing, but at least nobody was hurt!

Thank you so much for your help! I cant go big on both so I'm thinking this combo will work. I won't be using the wider lens in low light much until Jan which gives me time to get the better 24-70 at the higher price point. I won't be able to use a tripod so thinking the IS will help. The 70-200 2.8 IS I and IS II look great but out of my budget at the moment. Do you think these will be ok? I also can't find the body used but the new comes with a lot of extras that will be helpful to have.

Why on Earth would the bundle include 2 different battery grips????

Possibly an actor in the Nutcracker ?

Funny you should say this... I spent some time working in London in the mid-80s, after leaving the military and before coming to the US, and I was singing with an opera company. Well, you have to do *something* to stem boredom, right? Anyway, we did a production of Donizetti's L'Elisir D'Amore (the Elixir of Love), and the soldiers in the cast wore something not *too* dis-similar. Trying to find a relevant photo here... Ah, there we are...
