I’ve been following this group for some time and have long admired the images on this sub forum. I also downloaded several ebooks on astrophotography.

I was in New Mexico this past week which coincided with a new moon and the Perseid meteor activity. Unable to capture a meteor, however I did see one streak the entire length of the Dipper. Clearly, I have a lot to learn regarding best time of the night, setting up ahead of time, having a “safe light” so I don’t fumble in the dark.

This is the data:
Fuji XT2 with a 12mm f/2 Rokinon.
Location was on a ranch about 30 miles from Sante Fe, NM
Date/time: 8/11 9:50 pm
3200 iso 20 seconds wide open
Processing: +3.0 EC using the camera’s raw processor.

Beautiful Image, LRF!

In 2015, a Friend here invited me to come to his Star Party in Joshua Tree National Monument.
We camped there for 3 days and two nights. Unfortunately, a crowd gathered across the group camping area with an RV and a ton of morons.
Big campfire, noise, headlights parading around.
But they didn't spoil my plan, try as they might.

I set up my camera on my tripod, and let the Intervalometer do the work for me. It ran all night, rhythmically clicking away, while I slept in my tent.
But the 25 seconds open, 5 seconds closed, yields 2 per minute for as long as your batteries last. (I do a 2 battery extension)
Then I go through the resulting images looking for meteoric events.

Then I make a video like this: https://youtu.be/O5hf0szmKVE

Practice... practice... practice....

Thanks Sonny. Appreciate your feedback. I will continue to do this. I’m planning another excursion.... maybe in the Columbia River Gorge during the next dark sky phase. Although, I did my technical homework in preparation for this trip, there were logistical things that cropped up that I’ll file away for “next time”.

You are Welcome.
It's a blast. Have fun as you progress.

I do a lot of trial and error, error, error, in my back yard.
More private, and less embarrassing.

Nice video - I subscribed to your channel... I had all my gear set up ready to head for my dark-ish sky site, but we have been socked in with 100% cloud cover for days. This morning it is clearer, but there is still a high haze, and killing humidity... Maybe next year!

Hi Bloke!
Good to see you again!

Yes my Friend, like they say in Real Estate, it's location, location, location....
I've been making deliveries for my Son In Law. He has a company that rents trailers to the Studios for on location work.
Production is in high gear for the fall season, so he keeps me busy making early morning drop offs, and late evening pick ups.
Getting out early enough, and going back late enough, dodges much of L.A.'s infamous traffic snarls.
But not all of them...

I'm sure you've seen your share driving a bus around.
Takes stainless steel nerves, and brass balls.
But unlike you, the only thing screaming in my ride is me.
