Just discovered we may qualify for a free upgrade to Lightroom 4. check here:

Last month some retailers had short sales that heavily discounted Adobe Lightroom 3, selling it at $70 and $80. If you were one of the people who jumped on those deals, here’s some even better news for you: you might qualify for a free upgrade to the newly launched Lightroom 4! Adobe’s upgrade policy offers complimentary upgrades to people who purchase an old version shortly after a new one is announced, but it can also apply to you if you purchased shortly beforehand. Here are instructions on what you’ll need to do.

Nope... upgrade from 3 to 4 is $79 at Adobe. Of course, I didn't see anything about a recent purchase of 3.

Return lightroom 3 and get Lightroom 4 which was just released last week...

You will "Add" the photos to Lightroom - unlike Picasa which went out and searched for all the photos in a given directory tree automatically. Only the photos you want imported will be imported.

Depends on how much she paid for Lightroom 3. I am in the same boat... bought Lightroom 3 for $69 and haven't opened yet, but I'm not about to send it back and pony up $149 for an upgrade. One doesn't always need the latest/greatest.

A friend here in the states emailed the link to me. Not sure where he found it. The clarity of those vintage photos is astounding.

As somebody mentioned before, "my biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my equipment for what I told her I paid for it"!

Perhaps you should 'fess up" so she doesn't get ripped off when she sells... :-)

Fantastic photos from 1942 - 1943 using the 4 x 5 camera, ....you know, the one with the bellows and you had to slide the photo plates in and out to get your exposures.

...And then you can claim to be a photoshopper instead of a real photographer.

Photography is the greatest rathole to throw $$$ down. It is a bottomless pit. Gee I love toys. :D :D :D

No, I think you are actually referring to Golf. With Photography at least you have something in your hands instead of a receipt for green fees and cart rental!

I'd suggest getting your practice/experience with family and friends. You don't need to risk unrealistic expectations from someone you really don't know and has no incentive to be understanding if the photographic results aren't what she expected.

If you are going to do it for free as suggested by some others, what are you gaining other than practice which you can get with friends without risk?

I'm a little confused. If you don't have access to a computer, how did you post to the forum? If you are using a friends computer, you might request permission to download your photos to create a backup until your computer is up. Not familiar with uploading pics from iPhone.

I'd been receiving the daily email showing current new topics, and it hasn't been coming for a week or more. Anyone know?

Funny stuff, Marcomarks! I understand where you are coming from. But I will never go back there!!!! NEVER!!!!!

Me too... never - NEVER ! Marcomarks and many others complain about the price of Apple products, but an Apple laptop costing a few hundred dollars more will last twice as long! Quality build!

I do not care for MAC because they have their own set of terms. I figured out my PC on my own starting with DOS to windows to 95 to 98 to Windows 7 no schooling required. However my wife bought an Apple Nano for audio books and I had to use three pieces of software just to get a book on it. A friend bought a MAC and has to go to school to learn to use it

"...Has to go to school to learn a Mac".... now that's funny. So much easier than PC and I have used both. The average person can open a new mac and be working on it in an hour with no previous experience.

I have always been a Canon fanatic, and still have three including a DSLR but in the last couple years I have been amazed at the Panasonics.... with leica lenses. I currently have the DMC-LX5, DMC-FZ47K and a DMC-ZS8. The first two are more expensive than you want to pay, but the ZS8 is amazing and available right now at Amazon for $179.95. Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 16x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Black). That's discounted about $100 because the newest model as been released and even it (DMC-FZ10) is only $228. The ZS8 with a wide angle, stabilized 16X zoom is a steal at $179.

If Mac were so good, why does Windows outsell it twenty to one? ......Sure, Mac may be better in many significant ways, but, nonetheless, the market place has weighed in overwhelmingly for Windows.

....And using your logic, a Chevy must be better than a BMW. Other posts are correct, PC is more numerous based on price and the fact that Apple chose to have a closed system so they could control quality and compatibility with third party apps and hardware.

I have three macs in the household, desktop for my wife, one for me and a laptop. I often tell friends that I wouldn't have a computer if I couldn't have the mac and had to contend with PC crashes, lock-ups, viruses etc.
