I have been looking at a pistol grip for a second head. Was worried about holding power, however, my largest lens would be a 300mm. Is the Manfrotto a good choice for the pistol grip? This will be used for taking pictures only.

Thanks

As my Dad use to say, "buy the best you can afford"! There are a lot of used tripods out there, with some great ones thrown in the mix. Just do some searching and you can come up with a good match for your needs. Good luck!

Now, that's funny! Could have been worse, the little bugger could have stung you when you tried to "finger shop" him! lol

I see now that I may have to acquire at least two bags. Like many said, one large bag is cumbersome to haul around all the time.

i bought the vanguard 200 pistol grip for my manfrotto tripod and bought the $50 amazon pistol grip for my monopod........the $50 grip from amazon is better than the vanguard. it holds great...it locks great and way less money.

Info like this is what makes this site great! Thanks for the comment. Am looking for a pistol grip as well and will check it out. What is the name on this grip or is it listed as a amazon grip only????

Thanks

Hi - better late than never - this company does not have the name, resources or reputation of a "big boy" such as Manfrotto. However its tripods and heads are solid, well-built, do the job as it's intended, and cost substantially less than the "big boys".
Take a good look at the website and read the reviews and blog. I have this product and attach one photo to give you an idea.

There really is no need to be swayed by the marketing hype of the "big boys". This product is perfectly adequate at much more competitive and affordable prices.
Hi - better late than never - this company does no... (show quote)

Never heard of this brand, but looks very well built with a nice ball head to boot. I do like the twist locks. Wish my Bogen had that setup.

That's why I don't shop on-line for everything.
Gotta see how it fits.
We have two pretty good stores here for that kind of stuff.

Unfortunately, there is nothing within 50 miles that sells anything camera related around here. Then you have Best Buy on the coast. Will be heading up to TN in the next week and visit Dury's in Nashville. Large shop and sure they will have what I am looking for. I do appreciate all the suggestions! This is truly a great site.

Here are my hummingbird photographs from last Spring. All efix info posted with each photo:

To minimize cropping, I recommend a lens longer than 200-mm. I found small central Auto-Focus spot most helpful.

I encourage other photographers to post SUCCESSFUL Hummers-In-Flight photographs, with all capture data.

Assume job Nikonian! And thanks for the info on the shot. My daughter has lots of hummingbirds at her home in TN and I will be heading up there soon and give this a try. Have the 5100, so wish me luck!

I really appreciate all the great responses I have received. Also a big thank you goes out to the Administrator for fixing the spelling on the title. lol
Like some have said, I need to get into a brick and mortar shop and see if my equipment will work with what they have. I do like the fact that some bags open away from your body. Just looks like a easier way to access your equipment. Also, the fewer straps the better, just don't want to reduce the safety factor. A deep bag seems to be less chance of equipment spilling out when not wanted.
There are also a lot of video's on you-tube on bags. The Tenba Discovery bag in large seems to fit all my needs. Just need to visit a store and use the touchy, feely method.

Not trying to belittle here, but, you're right. If the OP could change it to poll in the title it would help. I honestly thought this was some kind of new pole type gadget you connect to your camera bag.

I'm not sure if there is a moderator on this site or not. Only they can change the thread. My boo boo! Have to live with it.

shoulder bag?
Has to fit 800mm lens attached to camera body
Impossible to answer

I didn't leave enough info from the beginning! So, here goes:
Nikon d5100
28-55
55-200
sb-700
going to get a 70-300
misc filters and hoods

The Think Tank is an option. Also looked at the System MFX and Tenba Discovery bag. This opens away from your body and I like that feature! The Tamrac 5612 is another nice bag. I am looking for a shoulder bag. Price in the $100 to $150 range if necessary. Also would like to be able to insert camera with a 300mm lens on board. Hope this helps you and me.

The Tram around Key West is great and gives you some knowledge of the area. Well worth it and gets you off your feet for about a half hour or so. The Glades can be non forgiving. Like others said, repellent, over the ankle shoes and bring plenty of water. I live in Okeechobee and there is a lot to see on the "Big Water"!
