I have read some great reviews for this camera, and some really positive ones in this forum. I too am looking for a new DSLR and as a beginner, have paid attention to some suggestions that I spend some time with some guides on what you want a camera to do and to learn the features of the camera that will meet your needs. I was also looking at the Nikon D5200/5300 but honestly, think the D3200/3300 will meet my needs. Also, I need to read up on lenses to get something that makes sense for me and the types of photos I will most often be shooting, which you may also want to consider, as opposed to buying the camera with the stock lense. Jerryc41 suggests refurbished and I have never had experience with one of those so if anone wants to add something about those choices, they may benefit you (and me, as well). Good luck in your decision.

The question, as I recall it was about what the $900. budget for equipment could get this person. Emphasis on equipment. Not all of the other associated costs. We don't know what is available to that person, but if he or she wants to pursue the profession, encouragement is necessary from others who have been there and succeeded. When Jack Nicklaus started out on tour, Arnold Palmer encouraged him, and look how that turned out. It seems that some people are so insecure in their own skin that putting down or discouraging others gives them some sense of superiority. This is not to say that starting a new business requires much thought about many start-up considerations, but again, this question was equipment related.

Well put. Encouragement should always be the theme, not discouragement.

What are you using now? It sounds like you are starting some aspect of a photography business, so what has your experience been with each? In the film camera days, Nikon was top choice, hands down. With digital, it may be a wash. Whatever you choose, get a body that feels good in your hands and then buy lenses that will fit newer bodies as they develop them with new features. Nikon lenses have been interchangeable for years but I am not sure if Canon follows the same practice but would think they do. I always look to see what many professionals use - recently at Disney it was Nikon. Totally your choice.

Just make sure you get a USA warranty. They will try to send you one of their warranties. If you are still looking, check out Sam's Club. All of their products come with USA warranties and their prices are very competitive.

I currently own a Nikon D50 and am looking to upgrade. I am pretty much a novice but plan to take some classes to improve my knowledge and techniques. I am looking at the Nikon D3200 and D5200. Both are available with two lens packages at $699. and $899. respectively. I want something's that I can grow into that will allow me to photo grandsons sporting events as well as normal vacation and travel photos. Suggestions, please.
