My tripod doesn't have that arm feature either but you can pick one up. It is also called a production arm.

just shining a light at a hummingbird will only upset it. Remember that molesting a hummingbird in some states is illegal. 
Try an off camera flash close to the feeder at a slight upward angle along with a better beamer.

I have a d500 with the Tamron AFA011N700 SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC,. It is the older version but can be picked up new for $870. Personally I'd opt for the new Tamron 150-600 G2 though. The background was added because the original was a solid gray sky.

I have the Tokina AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 PRO DX I use with a d500. Great for landscapes and indoor low light shots without a flash.
