looked into renting a 200-500 but they said it was for the full frame. Will it work ok for a Nikon 7000 and or 7100???

Yes, it will work, and renting will help you make a decision about buying.

I currently OWN, and have used the latest TAMRON 150-600mm G2 on a Nikon D500, and it really "rocks"..Totally satisfied shooting wide-open at f6.3..Very sharp.. Their "VC" has 3 different modes, and works incredibly well..Also comes with a 6 year warranty..I have to date not read ONE BAD review on this newly revised Tamron (G2 model)..I'ts at the same price point as the Nikon at $1400, but I really like the longer zoom range, and I do believe it's "lighter" than the Nikon 200-400.. Go RENT BOTH, and then make your decision..While in the store, I mounted the D500 on the Nikon, and found the Nikon lens too heavy to comfortably hand-hold and shoot for any length of time..That's when I made my FINAL decision to go with the Tamron!. Of course All this is just my opinion..Also the limited buffer on either your D7000, ot D7100 will frustrate you with either of these lenses..I would also consider buying a new or refurbished D7200 which has a much creater buffer for fast shooting and is is still a GREAT camera for the money.

It will work just fine. I primarily use my Nikon 200-500mm on my D7200.

It will work just fine, no worries. You can always use full frame on DX bodies - it's DX lenses on full frame that are the problem (image circle is too small)

It's coming along nicely :) It's completely drafted and I've edited it through a couple times. Doing the long process of illustration now, then another read-through and off to the editor.

There is a lot to know regarding the focus systems and the options are many and I have run across few shooters who can optimize their choices. The D500 was a wake up call and then I realized how much I didn't know about my other cameras as well. Working on it!

Those of you that have tried or have both the Nikon 200-500 and/or the Tamron/Sigma 150-600 which is you go to lens. I only have room and $$$ for one.
