LED lighting uses a small amount of electricity to generate a lot of light. And that's the problem - light pollution.

https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2017/11/light-pollution-energy-LED-bulbs-spd/

If you think thats a problem restricted to LEDS get ready to protest the MJ growers using greenhouses that destroy all night time darkness that used to be so wonderful here in southern Oregon. Dark skies are becoming a thing of the past here in Southern Oregon.
By that I mean everyone should be careful before they approve allowing MJ to be grown in their states, because what we allowed by permitting people to grow MJ in Oregon has now destroyed virtually all the wonderful nighttime environment for everyone.
Imagine what used to be a rural home where you could see the stars at night is now transformed into big, and I mean big, greenhouses all around you having grow lights on all night long.
What used to be a dark night has now turned a rural environment into an urban one. Now I understand why the people in urban cities are so crotchety.

Any state that has not approved the growing of Marijuana should realize that many growers do not care about their neighbors but will pollute the environment with light and noise to make money. Before any state votes to allow Marijuana to be grown they should get educated on problems of growers destroying the environment with excess fertilizers being put into the rivers and creeks, with greenhouses being lit 24 hours a day and huge, noisy fans being powered 24 hours a day in the greenhouses.
I'm sorry to hijack this thread but I don't think states that have not already approve MJ growing should be unaware of the problems caused by unregulated MJ growing.
If growing MJ was restricted to growing a crop like corn or grapes it wouldn't be bad but just like anything that looks good for making money the commercial interests have destroyed everything good about the idea in their haste to make money.

Jerry,
I worked for a helicopter logging company years back and most everyone burned wood in their homes. Many still do. Thats just for background to explain that most everyone had years and years of wood burning experience.

One of our most experienced maintenance workers decided he was tired of cleaning out the ashes from his wood stove. That led him to buy a pellet stove. For the first year he couldn't say enough good things about the pellet stove making his life easier. The it came time to clean the pellet stove and he related to everyone at work how difficult it was to clean properly as the pellets bonded to the stoves internal parts causing great difficulty for him to clean. He said he would never had bought one if he knew the yearly cleaning was so labor intensive.

This was about 10 years ago so maybe they have improved the stoves to minimize the maintenance issues he had. I suggest you make sure the maintenance of the pellet stoves they sell now arn't difficult.

As a separate thought, I have an outside wood boiler in one house that heats water that heats the house floor.
I'm not recommending you redo your house but I also heat my work shop (about a 1000 square feet) with that same water system via a radiator with a thermostat controlled fan.
If you have a small room you might look into using an outside wood boiler and running two insulated lines to a small radiator in the room. Then all the wood is outside, cleaning is easier, I empty my ashes about one every three weeks with a shovel into two buckets so no ashes in the house, and no wood in the house either.
Just a thought as it is so much easier than having a stove inside the house.

Keep us informed as what you wind up doing.

Little Bobby and Jenny are only ten years old, but they know they are in love.
One day they decide that they want to get married, so Bobby goes to Jenny's father to ask him for her hand.

Bobby bravely walks up to him and says, "Mr. Smith, me and Jenny are in love and I want to ask you for her hand in marriage."

Thinking this was simply adorable, Mr. Smith replies, "Well, Bobby, you are only 10; Where will you two live?"

Without even taking a moment to think about it, Bobby replies, "In Jenny's room. It's bigger than mine and we can both fit there nicely."

Mr. Smith says with a huge grin, "Okay, then how will you live? You're not old enough to get a job. You'll need to support Jenny."

Again, Bobby instantly replies, "Our allowance. Jenny makes five bucks a week and I make ten bucks a week. That's about 60 bucks a month, so that should do us just fine."

Mr. Smith is impressed Bobby has put so much thought into this.

"Well, Bobby, it seems like you have everything figured out. I just have one more question: What will you do if the two of you should have little children of your own?"

Bobby just shrugs his shoulders and says, "Well, we've been lucky so far."

Mr. Smith no longer thinks the little shit is adorable.

Shot and killed a tree rat from 150 + feet away with a BB gun.

That makes 5 this month. The record is 7...

Darn things are multiplying!

You might have a similar problem I do.
Darn neighbor lady feeds the Turkeys, squirrels, deer and her Alpacas plus any other critter that comes into her 5 acres. Unfortunately that brings real rats to the property and now I'm catching about 5 a month where I never saw any rats for the last 25 years. Think we can get her to control her feedings? Nope, she loves all creatures, even ones that carry disease.
Any ideas of how to stop someone like her?

Swede,
I'm at the other end of the state about 3 miles from the Rogue river.
Thinking of spending a couple of days near the Chetco River in February for Steelhead fishing and to see the conflict between the Bankies and Floaters. Should be interesting!

I dialed a number and got the following recording:
"I am not available right now,
but thank you for caring enough to call.
I am making some changes in my life.
Please leave a message after the
Beep.
If I do not return your call,
You are one of the changes."

Nominated as the best short joke this year...

"Mom" he asked, "are these my brains?"
"Not yet," she replied.

Interesting.
In the 40s my mom called the exact same thing 'Egg in bread'. That was north of Chicago.
It is delicious for being so simple.
Thanks for the memories.

He was a hell of an entertainer.
I saw him at a Juneteenth celebration in Dallas, TX. in 1987 and he really put on a show.
He also plays some great Blues with Eric Clapton on u-tube.

Ray came home one night from a long day at work, slid into bed beside his sleeping wife, and fell into a deep slumber..

He awoke before the Pearly Gates, where St. Peter said, 'You died in your sleep, Ray.'

Ray was stunned. 'I'm dead? No, I can't be! I've got too much to live for. Send me back!'

St. Peter said, 'I'm sorry, but there's only one way you can go back, and that is as a chicken.'

Ray was devastated, but begged St. Peter to send him to a farm near his home. The next thing he knew, he was covered with feathers, clucking and pecking the ground.

A rooster strolled past. 'So, you're the new hen, huh? How's your first day here?'

'Not bad,' replied Ray the hen, 'but I have this strange feeling inside. Like I'm gonna explode!'

'You're ovulating,' explained the rooster. 'Don't tell me you've never laid an egg before?'

'Never,' said Ray.

'Well, just relax and let it happen,' says the rooster. 'It's no big deal. He did, and a few uncomfortable seconds later, out popped an egg!
He was overcome with emotion as he experienced motherhood. He soon laid another egg - his joy was overwhelming.

As he was about to lay his third egg, he felt a smack on the back of his head, and heard.....

"Ray, wake up! You shit the bed!"

You can't beat the authentic style of making pizza from an Italian Restaurant. Is the Chicago style Deep Dish Pizza still popular? You needed a knife and fork to eat that one.

I know it dates me but back in the 50s there were no such things as deep dish pizzas. Just the normal thin crust and at M & Ps we always cut the pizzas in rectangles about 2 inches wide and not in triangles.

Of course, when we cut it like that every so often we'd cut a strip out of the center about 1/2 inch wide (after we made the dough bigger than the normal pizza), and then we'd push the pizza back together so us guys in the back room could get a strip of pizza to eat and not short change the customers.

Ohh, the things you could do back then that you can't do now. It was good times. No, it was great times!!

The Jakes we went to was on NW Hwy in Mt Prospect. Closed at least 5 years ago - unfortunately.
One year ago a new restaurant opened in the same (much remodeled) space -- Trezeros. A bit more
upscale than Jakes - almost any restaurant would have been more upscale than Jakes. Wish it hadn't folded.

I also grew up in Mt. Prospect but in the late 50s it was a pizza place called Mel and Paul's that was the main gathering place for many people. Their sons delivered in a 56 Ford station wagon that hauled ass. I worked there and we made everything from scratch and used nothing but the best ingredients like ground italian sausage that we pulled apart by hand and put BIG pieces on the pizzas. It tasted like a pizza should, not the processed sausage we get now.
