Thank you for your response. I really like your photos. You may have increased the number of people who will be cluttering up my photos because they will now want to also visit these spots.

I am in that area now. Where was the first photo taken, exactly?

I have read nearly all reviews of this lens, but would like to hear from any HHD users who might have actual hands on experience with it. The reviews make it sound much better than expected. But is it simply another "compromise" lens; unable to do anything really well. Or might this be a "jack of all trades lens" that can come very close to delivering the goods.
Comments from REAL users would be most appreciated.

Thanks

I have the lens and am happy with the results. Here are more photos from a recent trip to Charleston, South Carolina.

Thinking of selling my Nikon 18-200mm lens and buying the Tamron 18-400mm.

Anyone used both? What's your thoughts?

I have both. Since I got the Tamron, I haven't used the 18-200. I like the Tamron's reach. The Nikon may be slightly sharper, but can't get the long shots like the Tamron.

I just returned from Charleston, South Carolina. I used this lens most of the time. The attached photos will show the range of subjects captured. I am happy with the results.

Saw this lens and wondered if that should be my next purchase and leave most of my lenses at home.

I'm still trying to decide how happy I will be with this lens. It is pretty light(for what it is) and fun to use. I was shooting butterflies at 10-15 feet away. Attached is one of the photos. As mentioned earlier, AF fine tuning may help. My Nikon 18-200 seems sharper. It probably depends on your needs, wants, and how picky you are.

I think they look pretty good actually. Always AF Fine tune any long lens, the shallow depth of field they yield always benefits from tuning when the camera body is capable of it, as your is.

Thank you for the tip and feedback. I will look into doing that. I see Steve Perry has a video on that.

Looks fine to me. The flat light and low contrast always make things look soft. I didn't look at the EXIF info but if you're hand holding at 400, that would soften things up too. Plus, not having the aperture at the lens's "sweet spot" would be an issue.

All good points. Thanks for your feedback.

I just received the lens from B&H. I am somewhat happy with the early photos. Not surprisingly, it seems a little soft at 400mm.
The dog is my neighbor's dog showing the original raw file and converted to JPEG. Then I cropped and finished in Photoshop Elements.
The flower was shot outside in a local park.

Hi all, I must be loosing my grip, In Sydney for a few weeks we had a very popular light show, were iconic buildings are lighted up from giant projectors. Anyhow I wanted to capture some of these images. So i set my camera to manual focus and exposure. I am using an 18-200VR lens, which usually produces sharp images. Because of the low light, to get a decent exposure I had to use an ISO of 8000 at f5.6, even with this I was one stop down.
When I viewed the images, they were soft, and grainy. Of course I am disappointed with this, and I am trying to find out if it's something I did wrong?.
I am wondering if anyone has experience a similar problem?. Any help would be appreciated.
Attached is one of the images.

This is my first post after recently joining this forum.

Attached is a photo I recently took using the 18-200 VR lens on a Nikon D7100. It was taken at ISO 100, F16, 3/10 seconds, manual focus, on a tripod. It's actually an HDR, using 3 photos.
