Anyone have experience with the new Tamron 18-400mm lens?

I have read nearly all reviews of this lens, but would like to hear from any HHD users who might have actual hands on experience with it. The reviews make it sound much better than expected. But is it simply another "compromise" lens; unable to do anything really well. Or might this be a "jack of all trades lens" that can come very close to delivering the goods.
Comments from REAL users would be most appreciated.

Thanks

I purchased the Tamron lens when it first came out and have used it frequently. Thus far, I have found it to be a great go-to lens for anything from wildlife to landscape photography. I bicycle or walk through nature trails and appreciate the extra 100mm of reach that it offers, along with being lightweight. In those instances where I do not feel like lugging my 150-600mm, the Tamron has been great. So far, I have found the image quality to be very good and I've been satisfied with it overall.

I'm also satisfied with this lens. Use it on hikes and the flexibility it provides is great asset. Image quality is also very good.

Pop over to Amazon.com, type in Tamron 18-400, then and scroll to the bottom to read about those who have purchased it.

Be sure to read the reviews from the Canon users and the Nikon users, and any other camera maker who takes on that lens.

I just traded in my Tamron 16-300 for it, but haven't got it yet. One user cited the 16-300 as being weak, and was absolutely amazed with the 18-400.

That is encouraging, assuming these were discerning users. Please do get back to us once you have some experience of your own. At one time I got the 18-270 to use with my Canon Rebel; the Rebel died less than a year later, but I had already retired the 18-270 and had gone back to my previous two lens solution - 18-55mm kit lens and the old 75-300mm dating back to when I got my first EF system in 1995. I found that I usually knew which focal length range I'd need before I mounted the lens, so I wasn't excited about dealing with the compromises built into the 18-270.

Traded my Nikon 18-200 into to Adarama for the Tamron 18-400mm. Happy with the credit they gave me.

I like the Tamron. Very well made. It will not let you manual Focus unless you hard switch the lens to manual.

Over all very good lens and happy I got it. It’s the only none Nikon lens I own.

I’ll share some pictures once I take the images off my cards and onto my computer.

Hi from Perth, Scotland.

I have used the Tamron 18 - 300mm for a couple of years now and if the new 400 mm model is anything like this or even better, it will be a winner. I wish I had the funds to have a go at this new release. Cheers. Foo th' noo. Philphotog

Where would one find such a thing, in stock, with a Canon mount?

Have it. My experience has been limited and haven't had a chance to really fully test it yet, but so far so good. Certainly a great carry lens.

Not the best images in the world but here are a few from the Tamron 18-400mm with Nikon D500. Lens seems to be well made and easy to carry. LOL, even the lens cap is nice.

I have the lens and am happy with the results. Here are more photos from a recent trip to Charleston, South Carolina.
