Depending on your gear, try specific forums such as Fuji, Pentax or Nikon (etc) member sale sites. It's also a good place to look for equipment. I avoid Craigslist but Ebay works well for me listed as a Buy It Now or Best Offer listing. If I am selling via forums I price my stuff 10-12% less than completed sales from Ebay since there is no fee. I try to buy cameras and lenses new when on sale or incentives offered. Lately I have been buying used lenses when I can find what I want. I have never bought refurbished or reconditioned although many on UHH swear by it- I just don't feel good about buying equipment that has had a problem to begin with (yes I know that it has been inspected and repaired if necessary).
Nice shot! Hope you don't mind but I have some questions about the ranch. It is kind of in the middle of nowhere- which is good for photography-but did you find the logistics of getting there to be a hassle? Relative to other photo tours it is affordable but when you factoring in air fare and car rental it starts coming closer to the $3000 range. How do you rate the value of your time spent there? Were you happy with the photo opportunities during your time there? Did you get the photos you hoped for? Hector's web site photos and videos are some of the best I've seen.
Wow, you have a lot of activities in your life :) And a real lack of time to figure out your camera settings. A Raw image has to be edited to get the look you want and in order to do that you have to know something about post processing. Perhaps you could take Raw and Jpeg and set the Raws aside to manage at a later date. The jpegs already have some editing done inside the camera so you aren't starting from scratch. Does your camera have settings for specific occasions such as beach, sunset, mountains, people, sports, fireworks- that sort of thing? If so you might go to those specific settings and see how they work for you. And look at your camera manual to see if there is anything specific you need to do when in a certain mode. For instance "fireworks" might require using a tripod. And in the meantime keep learning.
"Imaging Resource" just tested the new Nikon 7500 inside a cave. It might be helpful to look at that review to see what challenges were faced and what settings were used. And the photographer does mention many challenges. I just skimmed the review so can't offer specific tips. (I would add a link but the last time I did that my response either got deleted or moved). But just google it.

I think it's great that Sigma has a new zoom telephoto lens and now Tamron will be releasing one. They may not equal a Canon/Nikon equivalent at double or triple the cost and weight but then none will equal the fast long prime at $8-10,000 or more. Actually wasn't Tamron the first to release the 150-600 mm lens for a reasonable price and everyone has loved it! So why all the negativity before it's even released!! I see a bunch of lens snobs out there.
Oh the old grumps out hating again - For you UHH Cyber Bullies, cthahn, markjay, delderby, and many more, - you guys need to get out from behind your computer and actually have some fun.
Thank you for all the nice comments :) Yes Opie keeps me active. He is a bit on the quirky side but a sweetheart! Can't believe that a year has gone by already!!
Opie thanks everyone for your comments and compliments :) I thank you too! Opie is long in his length with long legs too. So now he is able to counter/table surf and pick up what interests him from those surfaces. Between that and his lack of leash manners (he pulls like a steam engine) we still have more training and work to do. But outside of that he is easy to live with and a good companion.
