I'm very disturbed by this, as much as government regulations handcuff innovation, large corporations sabatoge it.

The tech keeps advancing quickly, so buy a factory refurb or good used body of ‘last year’s’ model and lenses from one of the big manufacturers and/or big reputable dealers, you’ll have more choices. Your area of interest and personal preference after getting your hands on a few different models should determine exactly what deal is best for your needs. Tell us more about how you plan to use the camera. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum!

Yes I'm worried. As Paul Harvey used to say, "America's the only country in the world where people are lined up, waiting to get in." On the other hand, I think America "peaked" back in the '60's when blue collar workers could afford to own a home and put their kids through college. Disregarding the worldwide problem of climate change and the mind-boggling deficit we're leaving our kids I see the disparity between the rich one-percenters and the rest of us growing wider, every day. The system is indeed rigged in favor of the wealthy and powerful leaving only enough crumbs to the rest of us to avert a full scale revolt. Oh yeah, I also think this is not only the case for America; I think it's worse in many other countries.

Ask the Smithsonian what skeletons are in their attic, literally. I worked at a major museum and I believe giants were real.

The ‘rumor’ is that photographers retain their brain functions, thwarting dementia to a more advanced age, if it ever develops, than the majority of the population, due to the types of demands on the brain.

Yup, what E.L said, he’s more thorough in his answer. In my reply, I left out softbox lighting as I saw you had that rigged as the starting point.

The best lighting for that type of product is a soft box elevated on a boom stand (of possible) or somehow suspended directly over the product. Fill in with a white or "silver" flat reflector. A bit of a drop shadow is nice- you can use white seamless paper. If you want the item to "float" on a clean field of white- place them a sheet of white (sign-white) Plexiglas and trans-illuminate it from beneath the Plexiglas.

This will avoid the multiple shadows and the wrinkled background you are getting now.

A black background will be problematic because the product itself is black so you will need more separation or blending in will occur. If you want a black background, place the products on a sheet of glass or clear Plexiglas and elevate the set over a sheet of black seamless paper of black velvet material. For separation, bring in another light from below to edge light the product. The main light is still that overhead soft box- for a product of that size a 30 inch soft box should work well.

I'll prep a diagram and post it for you!

Scavange your yard(s) for bits of moss, leaves, acorns, seed pods, bark, wisps and tufts. Build a little still life, light it with one spot & some mirrors and aluminum foil.
