$2000.00 the most for the camera body and $300.00 for a lens.

Spend a max of $500 for a refurb body and the balance on a couple lenses. Lyle

The tech keeps advancing quickly, so buy a factory refurb or good used body of ‘last year’s’ model and lenses from one of the big manufacturers and/or big reputable dealers, you’ll have more choices. Your area of interest and personal preference after getting your hands on a few different models should determine exactly what deal is best for your needs. Tell us more about how you plan to use the camera. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum!

Thank you all for excellent advice, just wondering about the mirror less camera and their future. I think I prefer full frame camera, but I’m open towards mirror less as well.
Love some kind advise from some mirror less user as well. I know nothing about them.
I have read a little bit about them. Some good some bad mostly good. Thanks in advance.

Thanks leicaflex , I will be going to Samy’s Camera today and check it on. So far Olympus mirror less sounds good and well within my budget.
Thanks again.

I suggest a nice late model FX camera. Without knowing what you like to take pictures of, it will likely be a better, all-around solution. If you are planning portraiture, street photography, travel, etc. a small sensor is ok. But if landscape nature, or low light photography is in the cards, then it's hard to argue that a smaller sensor will perform as well as a larger one. A used Nikon D800 is a steal at around $800 on eBay or $1200 from a retailer.

Then you can dedicate the rest of your budget to getting a lens. I do suggest you stay away from the Nikkor 28-300, which is not Nikon's best effort, and at 300mm is only going to perform like a 135mm lens at close distances. It's a phenomenon with the newer lenses that do not change their length as you focus, instead changing the focal length as you focus closer. And it is pretty bad beyond 150mm anyway, with it's worse performance at 300mm. There are many other good choices that will get you a decent lens, like a 24-120 F4 which you can find used for around $500, an 80-200 F2.8 AF-D which is also around $500.

You can buy either the Nikon D750 kit or the Sony A7iii when it's available. I wonder why your choice is FX vs Mirrorless because a camera can be both mirror less and fx.

Welcome to our forum!

In a way, it's too bad that mirrorless came along because that makes the decision more difficult. I've been using SLRs since the late 1960s, so that's my preference. I shoot with a FF Nikon D750. Great camera, but not cheap - even used or refurbished.

If you give us a price range, that would make a recommendation easier. Since you want a FF DSLR, that rules out the DX cameras in the $500 range.

With a budget of $2300, for the body I would go with this https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/refurbished-dslr-cameras/d7500-refurbished.html for $1150.
I would then add this lens https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/refurbished-dslr-cameras/d7500-refurbished.html for $270.00 and this lens https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1349415-REG/nikon_20068_af_p_nikkor_70_300mm_f_4_5_5_6e.html for $750.00

So, for about $2170 you end up with a D7500, a 10-20 lens and the newest 70-300 lens. A great start for your photography.
