I'm not kidding on this one--have you considered having you knee replaced? I have no idea what your situation is, but I had my hip replaced in '85 and have had no problems with it. And I remember Chester! I hike (but don't run or jog), walk, and do whatever. It's been truly amazing. I suggest you consult w/ a good orthopedic surgeon. And don't go to your local guy. Go to a university hospital in AZ. Best of luck.

I never order prints either. I have an HP 7525 Photosmart that does a nice job. And an Epson large format (up to 17" wide by X). The ink cartridges are the expensive part for either but in the end it's cheaper than film. Manufacturers always get you on consumables. Remember Kodak??

Something is amiss. Call them. I'm paying $9.99/month and have been since they started that subscription process. At first I objected but after thinking about it, it's the same as a magazine subscription--you pay periodically. It amounts to $120/year and you get upgrades to boot

bugfan, I agree with you. And if you really wanted to protect your camera and lens, you'd never take it outside. This discussion is ended as far as I'm concerned. It's gotten to the surreal.

Get a clear filter for protection. It never hurts and it gives a little bit of added protection. If it's coated, it won't cause flare. If you scratch the coating on a lens, it won't be cheap to get it recoated. Also, I've never looked at the absorption spectrum of a "UV filter" but glass by itself absorbs most of UV radiation. And I don't think a clear glass "filter" will cost you 1/3 of a stop.

Ralloh--I think that when the moon is first rising, the atmosphere can act like a lens (and I'm not sure how that happens) and makes the moon look larger. I haven't tried the finger trick but I'll try it at the next opportunity. Thanks for the tip. Last night the atmosphere was really hazy in my area (Northern Virginia--out in the country) so I didn't see the moon until it was well up into the sky.

Looks like Honfleur, France. The artifact is probably flare .but it's hard to tell. I doubt that it's moisture. Moisture would be fairly evenly distributed over the scene.

I was driving home last night as the moon was rising. A big orange ball on the horizon. It's been awhile since I've seen it that big. Unfortunately, I didn't stop to take a picture. I had my camera but was just too lazy to stop. I don't think I'll do that again. Might have another chance tonight

Be safe. It looks really bad and is from all reports.

If they asked (the public), they'd never get anything done. They couldn't respond to everybody's wishes.

Bob, I agree. MOST of the uproar is from groups that object to hunting in general. However, I think that the game hunting in Africa of the "big five" should cease. We've managed to kill off too many of them. It's time to bring some common sense to hunting in Africa. Poachers kill off too many of the big game animals. I'd rather take pictures!

I'm not a big game hunter but I do hunt white tail deer on the east coast of the USA. I also eat what I kill. But I believe that killing lions like Cecil is wrong. The lions are a diminishing breed and need to be protected. They are magnificent animals and should not be killed (either by bow or rifle) just because they are big game. It's time to end that kind of hunting for animals that are in danger.

I think we should just wait a week or two and then download it. What's the rush? It really doesn't matter since we've been working with Windows 8 for a while. When it comes, it comes.

Also, polarizing filters work well when you want to create more contrast between cloud and sky. Since the blue sky is reflected light, the polarizing filter will darken that but not the white clouds.

I bought a series of ND filters when I went to Wyoming to photograph wolves in the snow. Turned out well. Haven't tried a variable but I don't see why they wouldn't work.
