Backing up an SD card on the road

I travel a fair amount and am looking for a way to back up my SD cards at the end of each day. I am looking for a low tech solution. I would really like to transfer the images from the SD card to a flash drive. There must be a cheaper solution for backing up. I don't want to purchase a hard disk or go through some kind of internet connection system since those are not available. I have heard of a device that connects to my iPhone 6S with an SD and USB port that can do it, but can find nothing about it except for a couple European photographs. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks for any advice.

I've been wondering about the same thing. BTW, we have 2 things in common. Red Rocks & Indiana. I was raised in IN and now retired in AZ. You?

You could buy a used small laptop for about $100 that already has a hard drive for less than buying a usb hard drive. Check eBay.

Just buy more SD cards, nothing out there is cheaper for extra storage. Why complicate the issue? ;-)

I really want to have 2 copies of each file. Buying more SD cards is a good option, but doesn't allow for duplicating the files.

That is a reasonable alternative. I will check it out. But, I am really curious about the devices I have seen in photos of this device that appears to be in an iPhone or mini-iPad (which is also an option for me) and has an SD and USB port.

You must not be planning on saving very many pictures if you want to use your iPad or iPhone. With what I have on my iPhone I can hold about 100 .jpg's. on my iPad maybe 250. That is just 2 days of vacation for me. I tend to shoot a lot and don't cull till the trip is over and I am back at home. I have a firelight external drive I carry just for holding pictures along with my Laptop. I am currently looking at the My Passport wireless external drive by Western Digital as it has it's own sd card reader.

I think there's a difference too for how you travel. For example:
- If you bring a laptop with you, for things like email, UHH, directions, suggestions, etc. then use it.
- If you need more than a laptop then an external hard drive is a good secondary backup.
- If you're backpacking, and want to keep your weight down, you need a drive with a card reader.
- Or, what may be even lighter are multiple memory cards.

It really depends on what you need and are willing to pay. S-

Since my knees won't take a long backpacking trip any more I just take cards. I realize that different people do things in different ways.

I can walk about 6 miles in a day before my left knee locks on me and I am walking like Chester on Gunsmoke.

I'm not kidding on this one--have you considered having you knee replaced? I have no idea what your situation is, but I had my hip replaced in '85 and have had no problems with it. And I remember Chester! I hike (but don't run or jog), walk, and do whatever. It's been truly amazing. I suggest you consult w/ a good orthopedic surgeon. And don't go to your local guy. Go to a university hospital in AZ. Best of luck.
