Your Exif info is limited to D5300 with a 90mm macro lens. What aperture are you using? ISO & shutter duration are not as important on a stationary subject.

Thanks for your input, and I agree with your comment about the lighter background for the darker fly.

Our local swans have laid their eggs. Unfortunately last year all of the signets were killed by a coyote, hoping this year is better for them.

Just working on my technique. These flies were made by a friend using hair from my dog. Would love to know what you think, and what other people would use for background.
