My custom photo lab business bought the first HP CD player and writer which with 1X speed that in 1995 cost $995! Writeable CDs cost $5 and if you got an error overrun, you had a useless coffee coaster.

We also used an Apple II+ and upgraded the 48MB memory to state-of-the-art 64MB! This computer, a green monitor with a widebody printer for VisaCalc cost us close to $5K.

The famous figure model Liz Ashley will visit the San Antonio/Austin area once again in mid April.
Liz is one of the hand full of great models that have been modeling as internet models for over a decade. If you hook up with her for a shoot you will have one of the grand pro models who use the internet to make contact with photographers to do model sessions...

Timmers!

It is very gracious of you to let other photographers use your studio to shoot with Liz Ashley. She is truly a beautiful and top-notch model. A sweetheart who's extremely photogenic with no tattoos or weird piercings. Liz has been modeling for longer than a decade as my first shoot with her was in 2007 and I continued to work with her up until 2012 in Baltimore.

Unfortunately, since then, we have not connected but it's great to hear that she is still modeling. I still shoot with models every week or so.

Be well! Hope you had a great Easter! Ed

Before I begin my question, I have checked the search feature on UHH. I am looking for software that can edit photographs. I have several photographs that were given to me. Since they were not taken by me, I had little control over the photograph or the photographer. I have a website for my Charitable Foundation. Some photos are blurry and some have artifacts that I wish to remove. Some group photos have people who “photo-bombed” and I would like to remove them if possible. Does anyone have recommendations?
Before I begin my question, I have checked the sea... (show quote)

Send the images here! Hoggers and I have generously given our time and skill to those who have needed help.
It sounds like some of the images need more advanced AI sharpening and other capabilities.

Inquiring minds want to know: As a "regular" here on UHH and with over 4000 posts, are you a "SOOC" guy who normally has no need of editing software or just looking for a better solution for these photos?

John Carpenter's "The Thing" (1982) is the remake of the original "The Thing" (1951) movie that I saw many times on Channel 11's "Million Dollar Movie" broadcast here in the metro NYC area back in the days when I was a teen. This original version had James Arness (of Gunsmoke fame) starring as the monster.

The 2011 movie is a prequel as it tells the story of what happened to the members of the Norwegian Antarctic
team and the two remaining members in their helicopter as they try chasing down the escaping husky dog. It's this dog that allows the Thing to devastate the American team as we view the opening scene in the 1982 remake. There's also a "Behind the scenes" video floating around YouTube that shows the special effects.

Be well! Happy Easter and Passover! Remember B&H and Adorama are currently closed due to the holiday.

That's fine! I need your address for a check or provide a Paypal username so I can pay. Please PM me and I'll reply with my address too.

I'm interested mainly in the 68 cartridges for my Epson printers that use them.

Thanks for asking. Be well! Ed

I'll take the whole bunch! How do you want payment? If by check, you can send the ink after it clears. I've done about a dozen successful transactions with other Hoggers. And several hundred eBay purchases!

Photographic paper should last for years if kept in a regular room-temperature environment. Paper, only kept in black bags, depending on ambient light may have some edge fogging but should also be good. However, depending on storage conditions and the length of time since its production, the paper may develop minimal slight overall "fog" to the paper which can easily be countered by using a higher-than-normal contrast VC filter. The processed print when compared to a normal one will show a grey tone in the borders and an overall loss of print contrast. Anti-fog benzotriazole tablets and liquid will minimize this border tone.

Very often, my former custom lab (1968-2008) bought surplus and remainder stocks of paper from other labs and photo supply stores (back in the day) that retired or folded. We carried out tests beforehand to compare print results. Over 95% of the time, we encountered no problems.

I have 4 Nikon batteries for my D7100 and 4 aftermarket. I recently charged all of these batteries and was disappointed to find the aftermarket batteries not only didn't charge to 100% but also discharged rapidly in the camera. Have any of you had a similar experience? Any input will be appreciated. Bob

Bobfitz!

I bought a nice condition Nikon D810 almost 2 years ago via eBay. It came with 12 batteries along with other goodies: 6 Nikon OEM, 4 "Vivitar" and 2 were some other brand. The Nikon batteries are the same EN-EL15s that also fit the Nikon D7100 which I also had but eventually sold.

One of the Vivitars would not charge but all the others did and to this day work fine. I've also acquired a few others such as the "Power2000" brand and they are OK too. Since I buy only lightly used equipment and very often get the accessories too; accompanying batteries, even aftermarket have worked fine for me.

Most batteries and other accessories are made by only a few manufacturers and are also sold to other brands. These might be less than 1st quality and it's the luck (or not) of the draw. I've had good results with Brand X!

At the lunch counter retro style and the wooden, yes wooden, Harley! The F.W. Woolworth store in Asheville, NC

Your thread reminded me of a Woolworth's store directly across the street from a photo studio and darkroom that I shared with other photographers. On the north side of West 44th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues), a number of us would have lunch at the Woolworth's counter for a buck or so back in the late 60s. It was at this cooperative photo venue that I met friends who helped me formulate the beginnings of my 40-year-long custom photo lab and studio business.

The Wikipedia entry of Woolworth's tells the story of Frank W. Woolworth who failed his way to success opening his "five and dime" stores. With his friends and relatives, he pioneered the first "Box Department Stores!" In 1910 he was able to commission the building of this NYC landmark.

By 1925 the company reported $253 million in sales. All this and more by "nickel and dime-ing" his way to success! As time went by, he faced much competition and changes in consumer tastes and in 1997, the company decided to specialize in sporting goods, first changing its corporate name to Venator and then in 2001 to Foot Locker, Inc. In 1998, the company sold the building and moved to offices on West 34th Street.

I know this is slightly off-topic, and I'm delighted that Jamie Lee Curtis won an Oscar, but it dismays me to no end that Harrison Ford (who presented the Oscar to his "Raiders" co-star, Ke Huy Quan) has never won. I consider that an injustice of the utmost magnitude.

Fred!

He will probably get, if the Academy has half a brain, a Lifetime Achievement Oscar. It's the award that many who missed an Oscar, get after a full career in film.

Roni!

Those were the "good old days" of the LI Photography Meetup group. Even though I live in Manhattan, NYC I joined and attended many of Roni's events and shoots, out on Long Island.

I was also an instructor at Germain School of Photography back in the 80s when the school was located in the Woolworth Building. It was a vocational training school that offered a commercial photography curriculum with a number of tracks. I taught a studio course that used 4x5 film view cameras and involved the setup, shooting and the processing of the exposed film in both B/W and color. The school had a sink line with deep tanks for both B/W and E6 Ektachrome. C-41 and Ektacolor printing was also SOP.

Sometime after the school left the Woolworth Building and relocated near FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) in Midtown, the building's lobby was restored and public traffic was restricted. Tours were offered as mentioned by Roni.

Great photos and short history of the building. Be well!
