Sounds like a win-win to me. MILC users have lots of new toys, DSLR folks can still get bodies new, and lots of great deals on used stuff.

And point and shooters have better and better smart phones to play with. I'm firmly in the mirrorless camp, and like using my camera phone for snapshot stuff like sending my wife a picture of that new Lamborghini I want for my birthday.

Funny how that never seems to work out, though.

Another question jumped up. I have the Panasonic Leica 12-60 lens with IS. I read somewhere that the Olympus Cameras will not play to gather with Panasonic Lenses. IOW the IBS works but the Lenses Stabilization does not work. Is this so? Or does it mean that no stabilization works in the body and lens?

I think you can have one or the other but not both. You won't get sync IS. With the IBIS in Olympus cameras, and the panny only going to 60, you won't really need both.

Yes, and I was just pointing out that on the one hand truly high rez (whether 50 or 80 no matter) is joined into the same feature/mode with an ordinary rez choice (25) whose only real usefulness could be noise reduction, yet OMD just calls it file size economizing.

That is my real point, that marketing materials are sometimes misguided. Noise reduction is very valuable, yet it goes unmentioned. The 5 extra MP is negligible yet that is what is marketed.

I do agree with all of the above. Since most of my shooting is birds these days, I haven't really used the high rez modes. I have them in "My Menu", though, for when I get jazzed about landscapes. And some of my stuff I wish I had the ability to use HR, just for the noise reduction you mention. Generally the birds don't cooperate much.

Acoarst 50MP hand held is also providing noise reduction as well. I want one :-)

If you mean the mkiii, I have one for sale as I mentioned before. PM me if interested. Also an em1x.

Just checked. We are both *slightly* off.

You might be thinking of the mkII. The mkIII does do hand held hi rez, raw or jpeg, but the limit is *50MP*, not the 80MP that I had written. 80 remains stuck on a tripod.

Anywho dropping from 50 hand held to 25 to reduce file size ? Clearly, on a 20MP camera thaz not about hi rez mode but is about noise reduction thru compositing ... or as Sony names it "Hand held Twilight".

Right, I knew there was a 50 MP handheld. Just pointing out that 80 MP was not.

Dont know what you mean there.

Noise is reduced by composite imaging, its not "hidden by resolution". Youve got eight frames mashed into one. it works regardless of resolution.

IIRC the Sony term for it is "Handheld Twilight Mode". No claim is made about resolution, only noise reduction.

OM offers handheld hi rez with an option to reduce from 80MP to 25MP "to reduce file size". Whatz the real use for that if not for noise reduction ? 25MP isnt hi rez yet its an option in their hi rez mode.

I hadn't noticed the 25 MP option, which sounds useful, but the 80 MP is NOT handheld, That is the tripod mode.

In addition to the super control panel, which is amazingly useful, set up "My Menu" with the menu items you expect to use most frequently. That way you won't be going crazy wondering "Where was that item I need to set?"

Also, did you mean the 12-100 f/4? If so, that's a phenomenal lens.

I had issues for a while when I first transitioned from Nikon, but in time I learned to use the Super Control Panel for pretty much everything, and stay awa from the buttons. The other very useful thing is "My Menu."
