Thanks guys. I guess I'll have to keep looking. The Walgreens near here is one that no one here wants to even enter.

As a teachers, I have made 8x10 prints of "promos" for my fall and spring class. "Physics for Poets" and "Light, Sound, and Electricity". I've hung them in about a dozen locations to remind students at enrollment time. My little supply is nearly exhausted. So so you have a recommended company that I can go to, to send a .jpg, and obtain color prints?

Thanks all,
Bill

Don't give up on Affinity Photo. Just use the functions you have already learned, then over a slow weekend, experiment. It is AMAZING its power. And if you have a specific question, you can 'message me' directly via UHH, and I'll be glad to help. I'm on my computer every weekend, and in less than two weeks, my fall classes will begin. I encourage my students to send me their questions, and on the weekend too. I'll be glad to help you.

Longshadow: I believe your are very correct. In my case, I do teach electronics in my physics class. When two identical batteries are connected in -parallel-, the current is doubled, and the voltage stays constant. That is why we get a "longer life" before we need to recharge them, both of them. Like you, I have Canon, and always with a battery grips. I will always remember the bitter cold winter storm we had a few years ago. I went to a local park to capture many beautiful images. Two fresh batters in the grip, and I put two more in a shirt pocket that would keep them close to my chest, hence receive body heat from me. Remember, in nearly all batteries, the output is a function of temperature. That's why in very cold weather, as the temp goes down, your "car battery cranking power" also goes down. So, back to the cold park. After about 40 minutes of shooting, the two in the pack ran down, so back to the car, and insert the two from my shirt pocket. Yep, I got another 40 minutes. In fact, I capture an image of a young father and his young child on a sled coming down a small hill, surrendered with snow covered pine trees on both sides. I capture some nice image. The dad asked if he could see them, and fell in love with the images. I told him to pick the one he likes best, and I'll email a .jpg to him. He told me used it to make their Christmas cards, all 400 of them. Kind of makes you feel good when you can 'make a difference'.

So, two (identical) batteries, in parallel, will double the current, and keep the voltage constant. In fact, I have a former student who likes to help fellow students when the bitter cold makes their cars difficult/impossible to start after classes. Dan bought a second truck batter, wired them in parallel and was then able to help many many students. 12vdc and a major high value of dc current. I hope this helps.

Sorry for the story about the young dad and child, but I thought the double battery part of the story might interest you and suggest we all look for ways to help other people with our images.

Here's something to think about? The USPS """lost""" a personal check I mailed to a local medical office. Two weeks later, it showed up as a "washed check" (bank vocabulary) in which the """lost check""" got into the hands of a thief, and the check was changed into $4,200 payable to a fake name, and cashed at a local Credit Union. So my checking account got 'docked' for$4,200.

Suggestions? Don't eve use the USPS.

Hi neighbor of mine, from St. Louis here. That is an amazing HDR of the tree and reflection on the water. My compliments.

I simply wanted you to know what Outdoor Photography had to say about Mirrorless in the June/July publication.

I am neither opposed to mirrorless or in favor of mirrorless.

I know this is going to upset some, but I'm eager to read reactions.

From the June/July of Outdoor Photography, and from an article titled "The Mirrorless Future Is Now", all sounding so promising. But here is a direct quite which I will type here.

"Though the potential of mirrorless camera systems was intriguing, the nascent technology also posed limitations that would take years to resolve. Early mirrorless cameras relied on sensor-based contrast-detection autofocus, which lacked the responsive accuracy of the phase-detection autofocus offered by DSLRs, and their electronic viewfinders were relatively sluggish, dim (especially in low-light scenes) and low-resolution, providing suboptimial experience compared to the optical view-finders in DSLRs."

Quoted straight from the June/July issue of Outdoor Photography.

Thoughts?

LCD was reading my mind. Go to www.serif.com for Affinity Photo. You make one payment, and never again. The updates are totally free, and this software will make Adobe Photoshop worry! This is a very power full piece of software, and the cost usually runs about $50. There is even a trial plan.

It's Affinity Photo for me.

Just as natural a car seat belt can feel, I'm attached a wrist strap to all four of my cameras. It feels so natural, I can even let the camera hang from my hand, and never fall off.

I would not either. When I'm here, I'm looking at every image, assuming they are from every member here.

Perfect answer there Longshadow. The lens hood not only protects the lens, but(wink wink nudge nudge) I've found that when I'm at our local zoo, many folks will move aside to let me move closer. I'm guessing they might believe I'm a ""professional"" photographer working for a magazine. I won't fool them, so I say nothing, but appreciate their permitting me to move closer, hence not shoot over some heads.

Been there. Take one zoom lens, and the 24-105 will do nicely, particularly if you do post production. If you don't, take a 1.4 or 2.0 lens multiplier. From aboard ship, you'll see a lot of action from the hills. But if you do post production, you can crop to get those distance shots to become close ups.
