I'm wondering what you have been doing up to now. Is the 14 year old D7000 brand new to you? Both the D7000 and CS5 were released 14 years ago. I can understand CS5 would not have had the NEF conversion files for the D7000 when it was released at the same time 14 years ago. Surely there must be some free Nikon software to convert the NEF files to DNG. If you get pleasure from your photography, surely it'd be worth a Starbucks coffee a month to have the latest PS/LRC software that has 50 times as power of CS5.

I normally use Nikon NX Studio (as well as Nikon Capture NX2 for my older Nikon cameras) for my NEF files among all the other editing programs that I also have and use. Each has their own features and efficiencies!
Very often, I use FastStone Image Viewer, see: https://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm for a "quick and dirty" image adjustment. It is simple to use compared to other software! Currently, I'm using a relatively new (2 years old) Nikon Z5 camera and my NEF files download and open without a problem! If I can open these files, then FastStone will probably open your older Nikon D7000 NEF files. The price is right (FREE DOWNLOAD!).
In the Menu bar along the top is "Tools." The drop down window contains batch processing tools. Go to "Help" all the way to the right to download a Tutorial.
Your NEF files will remain, not be converted and encumbered with DNGs and you will be able to save as jpegs or whatever!
Be well! Ed

I once fronted the money for a friend to by a 1957 Maserati 350 GT in 1980 It pretty much needed a complete restoration. He got over his head pretty quickly and I mandated that we sell the thing before my losses got any worse. Those kind of restorations can gobble money at a voracious rate...even if you know what you're doing.
