You need a quick point-n-shoot camera that is easy to use, small and accessible with very good image quality. Selling my EXTRA Canon PowerShot Elph 330 HS camera. I have another I keep in my car for those special unexpected opportunities. I'm always amazed at the image quality I get with this camera. Not going to recite all the features as you can research but will point out the 10x zoom and image stabilization. You get everything that came in the original box as pictured. Actually I forgot to photo the interface cable but it is included. $75 plus $10 shipping and I accept PayPal. If you want to send a check I will pause shipping until it clears. Very nice condition. You won't be disappointed. Attached two photos taken with this camera.

My friends son has been saving his money and has 500.00 saved to buy a camera. He is into aviation and wants to take pictures of the moon. Looking for recommendations to get the teenager started.

For that kind of money he might want to consider a bridge camera like my Canon SX50. Attached photo was taken with it and then cropped a bit. A DSLR with lens that even comes close to this picture will cost far, far more. On eBay they're going for about $150 - $180 average.

For the second time, scientists have produced an image of a black hole, the one at the center of our galaxy. There is lots of info on YouTube and elsewhere. It's located 25,800 light years from earth, so the picture is a bit blurry. Stars are circling it at up to 24,000,000 MPH.

So they can't get a photo better than a blurry hot mess but they know the stars are circling it at up to 24 million miles per hour. uh-hhuh

I refer to these many items that one sees on Facebook, such as "we are overstocked/going out of business/feeling generous" ads offering a new CANON or NIKON camera with 3 lenses, 2 batteries, 2 memory cards, tripod, bag etc for $99 !!! Is there anything to this ?? or is it some kind of come on, and how does it work?

Are any advertisements on Facebook legitimate? VERY FEW unless you want 100 USPOSTAL stamps for $19.99 ... Ha ha.

Very good point. Using AA batteries removes two more aggravations, that of the expense of buying an extra, proprietary battery and having to recharge said battery, which always seems to happen at the most inopportune time.

I'd rather be re-charging a proprietary battery than constantly buying replacement AA batteries.

I would disagree with the cell phone recommendations. I find that it is much more difficult to take a photo with a cell phone than with a camera in several ways, some of them particularly applicable to less agile older folks.

Here are some of the cell phone issues:
1. Start the camera app
2. Hold the cell phone so that you don't accidentally touch the screen nor any of the buttons on the side.
3. Now move your hand around so that your finger can touch the shutter button.
4. Discover that you are holding the phone upside down or switched left to right and re-orient it.
5. Now press the shutter button without moving the phone and without dropping it accidentally.
6. Oh, whoops you took a selfie because in all your fiddling around, you touched the part of the screen that flips the lens front to back.
7. Oh, whoops, you accidentally started a phone call..

I could go on.

A camera is ergonomically designed to take pictures. A phone isn't.

A camera phone is not for an 86 year old. The Canon Powershot Elph series are the best and easiest to use with very good image quaoity. Though I have 6 cameras including DSLR I have two Canon Elph 330 HS. One stays in the car and the other is in the closet in case the other goes south. I have never been more pleased for quick, ease of use. You can get a like new on eBay with original box, manuals etc for around $70 - $85. She will thank you.

I’m missing something with the Brooklyn Bridge comment. What’s wrong with it?
The answer to the question is Manhattan.

Uh, the contestant named a city clear across the country from NYC.

I posted a photo of a Tesla van gassing up. If they build electric cars, why aren't their own vehicles electric?

Because the service guys have to drive a lot further each day and don't have time to sit around while the van recharges.

What's good for the Tesla guys is good for us too. Fossil fuel is better. Even electric cars require gas to generate the electricity.

And where do you think the power for the Tesla comes from?

A bit off the point of your post, but thought this is funny. A Tesla service van getting a gas fillup! Why do they manufacture electric vehicles and use gas in their own service vehicles?.

I didn't begin drinking coffee till I was in my fifties, and it took me a while to figure out that I liked it black. I could never get the milk and sugar proportions right. I tried all different kinds of "good" coffee, and I finally settled on old fashioned Maxwell House. I tried "top rated" coffees, but I couldn't see the appeal, especially considering the premium price. I was disappointed that I didn't like the Kona coffee samples they gave us when we went to Hawaii. Just as well, I guess. I've gotten variety packs of K-cups, but none of the flavors appealed to me.

In a documentary about coffee a few years ago, it said that America was given was what was basically the dregs in terms of coffee quality. When I see small bags of coffee selling for $10, I'm glad I like my Maxwell House.

How about instant? That was all my parents drank, but I've never tried it. As for Starbucks, I'd have to take their language course before I ordered there. Asking for a small cup of coffee would probably get me a wide-eyed stare from the clerk.

Comments are welcome.

Regarding your comment about Starbucks.... it's about $40 per gallon. Gasoline is a better bargain right now LOL.
