The B&W is more dramatic, producing a mood, reminiscing of Ansel Adams. Also there's more enhancing detail in the foreground.

Looks like an experienced pianist by the shape of the finger tips and the trimmed nails. Good lighting.

No, the way I heard it, she was a prostitute in Venus and worked both sides of the Grand Canal!

Looks like you've found the shallowest depth of field you can get with that lens. Why not try progressively smaller apertures to see the effects on DOF?

I have the 60D and two Rebel T2i's which I use inter changeably for anything outside, indoors, modeling, sports, macro, parties w/ flash - you name it. Here's my best recommendation - I've NEVER had one fail to produce the desired results, and I've blown some of them up to 13x19 on my Canon Pro9000 Mk II printer!

All that talk about how good a camera is when really the most important factors are the lens, the settings and of course most of all, the photographer's ability!

I bought that lens a number of years ago when it was the first of that size with built in Image Stabilization. It has since been superceded by the 70 to 300. The lens has done well for me, and the only complaint is that it's slightly slow at f4-f5.6,that has not hampered me and is a good buy at today's prices.
