True but it may take a decade to catch up with South Korea. Probably longer. Look at how long it took South Korea to catch up and surpass Japan. Samsung is a market leader now but their first 35mm cameras were crap. I know. I tried to repair them. Their circuit boards looked like they were hand soldered by workers with too little rice in their diets. I finally refused to take them in for repair. Given time North Korea could be a competitive powerhouse but it'll be after we have probably left the planet.

You can't have too many cameras and lenses. Or other toys. Sport cars, grills, flat screens, drones, etc. But women tend to disagree. Of course re-painting and buying new furniture for a perfectly good room, new kitchen appliances, and new jewelry are a necessity. Go figure. Total waste of money. Women just can't get their priorities straight. I could buy a few Topaz plug-ins for Elements for what they want to spend on dinner at a fancy restaurant.

I had the 500mm f/8 on my Nikon FM/FE but sold it when I moved to Colorado. Traded it actually for a 24mm f/2.8. It's hard to get great scenic shots with a 500mm although I do have one of Long's Peak from Trail Ridge Road before I traded the lens. I shot a lot of college football from the sidelines with my F-1 and an FTb for a backup. Those were fun times. Especially shooting Alabama games when Bear Bryant was still coaching.

I tried to wear out my first Canon F-1 while working for a newspaper. Couldn't do it. I switched to Nikon when the FM and FE came out just for the MD-11 drive. I needed it since I was shooting lots of sports at the time. I still say the Canon F-1 was the better camera over the Nikon F even though I'm way in the minority I'm sure. Those old Nikon owners can sure be snobbish when it comes to their cameras. Just joking. Nikon owners are OK. It's the Leica owners that are the real snobs. Now I've stepped in it. Let the fun begin.
