Nice one, Mike. The observatory is very pretty and your rendition is very well done.

Thanks Mike. The observatory is always photogenic, but best when the lights are on in the evening.

Really nice photo. Where are the stars? I meant the ones in the sky.

Thanks.

The city lights were too bright and my exposure too short to capture the stars (the ones in the sky).

That view looks strangely familiar, Mike.

When we lived in California, some 17+ years ago, we took a "shortcut" that sent us around Lake Isabella. The down side was that we were in a motorhome that was tall enough to suffer damage from rocks hanging over the road.

We quite literally spent way too much time taking our half "down the middle". I know that my wife would not agree as she was extremely uncomfortable until the overhanging rocks were behind us, but I thank you for the mini trip down memory lane.

If you ever try that again, come into the lake from the east side, taking the 178. You bypass all the overhangs.

Beautiful. Lake Isabella is in my daughter's geographical backyard. I guess its time for a roadtrip there. Thanks for posting.

I'm thinking the same thing, time for another trip out there. I have a sister that lives in Wofford Heights.

Thanks, I agree. I've never gone back to try getting the Hollywood sign.

I found a small flat area just a short hike from Mt Hollywood Rd to capture this evening image. The Hollywood sign is just a short distance directly behind me. Originally, I was looking to photograph the sign, but as I walked around the area, I became more interested in the city lights. I ended up spending all my time taking pictures of LA from different locations around the area. This is a 2-shot pano, getting the observatory and the downtown area into the same image.

Best viewed in download.

I never did get the shot I wanted of the Hollywood sign.

Lake Isabella is located about 40 miles NE of Bakersfield, CA at the southern end of the Sequoia National Forest. For the past several years, the Corps of Engineers drained Lake Isabella to make repairs and modifications to the dams. After completing the dam repairs, water conduits were closed allowing the lake to begin refilling. With the above normal snowpack last winter, the lake filled much faster than expected. Here's a morning image of the refilled lake.

I have the Epson ET-3750 purchased from Costco about 2-3 years ago. Print photo's regularily but mostly documents. Prints are not gallery quality, but more than acceptable to frame and place on your wall. Haven't had any problems with the printer to date. Buying from Costco, you get a 2nd set of ink bottles in the Costco special. I'm about half way thru the first set of ink bottles. At this rate the ink will last longer than the printer. My experience so far is that replacing the printer will be cheaper than continually purchasing new HP (or epson) ink cartridges.

Hello all. I captured this image of a local fisherman passing in his canoe at Lake Atitlan, Guatemala this past spring. I'm looking for any tips or advice on how to edit the image...

I wouldn't try to clarify the image or add/enhance any color. Fog naturally diffuses the color away and tends to drive the image to grey. I suggest embracing the mystery that the fog creates. Darkening the image will enhance that sense of mystery. But you need to bring the fisherman back to the being the subject so lighten the area around the fisherman so the viewer go immediately to him. I would also add a slight blue color cast to give the image a cooler feeling.

I've been using Aurora HDR for years but it's no longer supported or being updated by Skylum. The last version was Aurora HDR 2019. Luminar NEO is "kind of" their replacement but it doesn't have batch processing capabilities. I'm thinking about getting a new MacBook Air using Apple's M2 chip. Does anyone know if Aurora HDR will run on the M2 chip?

I have a MBP with the M2 chip. Initially, I found that Aurora wasn't present in my filters menu. Skylum hasn't upgraded Aurora for the newer apple chips and is relying on Luminar Neo going into the future. While editing an image in PS, I'll may use Aurora on a single layer to modify the image and then continue editing as normal. This isn't possible in Luminar Neo. However, I now have Aurora working just fine in PS on my M2 MBP.

To run Aurora, you need to run PS using Rosetta. Find the PS app (step 1) in the Applications folder and select 'Get info' (step 2). In the 'Get info' panel, turn on 'Open using Rosetta' (step 3). Close everything including PS if you have it open. Now if you run PS and you have Aurora installed you'll see it available in your filters menu.

Aurora will now run on the M2, whether as a filter or a stand-alone app.

An added note, I see no perceived difference is speed when running PS natively or using Rosetta. There will be a measureable difference but the M2 is fast enough that the difference isn't perceptable.

Hope this helps
Mike
