I just bought one (waiting for delivery). The 600D is an excellent dslr as are all the Canon offerings. I got mine on Amazon for $615, about $80 of the normal day to day price.

A good buy, yes it is.

The 600d and the eos t3i are the same camera and yes they are outstanding canons. go for it.

fiddling is good, but look at learning specific tasks too. google things like "sharpening in pse" you will get at least three different methods and hopefully a discussion on when to use each one. also when you decide what you want to achieve with your picture do a quick search and get pointers and alternatives. PSE is a big programme and you can quickly get complacent and use 20% whilst ignoring the other 80% . I went from pse 8 - pse 11. only a few upgrades + lots of presets for what i could do manually before. Its worth exploring before spending. Having said that I would definitely get the best programme out there before it goes cloud based.

I have viewed this river when it was raging, just out side of sacto. It's not so peaceful in the rainy season.

Well that happened to me when I was taking photo's of a unmarked Fed. building , I explained to him that I just came D.C. with a thousand pic's of fed buildings and no body said a thing to me. Besides that I can sit in front of the t.V. and shoot Fed bldg. all day long and you can hardly tell the difference, OH well. that is the way it goes.
