With this comment and his examples I think Dman pretty much answers the question.

Been there more than once in both May/June and September/October. It was wonderful every time. It started getting a little warm the one time in June. When you go, don't miss some of the lesser known out of the way places also. Goblin Valley State Park and the whole surrounding area is really nice for geology, slot canyons and unbelievable rock formations. Gooseneck State Park is a must see along with Moki Dugway and Muley Point in the same general area. Capitol Reef, Bryce and Arches are my favorites from the more well known parks. Vermilion Cliffs and Grand Staircase are also great areas, in fact my very favorite places, but difficult to access without 4-wheel drive. Finally, make sure you drive Highway 12 from Bryce Canyon to Capitol Reef! It is the most beautiful highway we have ever driven as full time RVers and travelers.

If you like shooting birds, they have a great place to go for ducks, grebes, shore birds and lots of smaller birds also. It is down on south Boulder Highway as a recall and it is really a water treatment facility. They have great volunteers there ready to help with questions, etc.

The Sonora Desert Museum outside of Tucson is great for photographers. Try to go when they are doing their wild raptor demos. The San Xavier del Bac Mission is also a great place to visit.

I agree with "it's too bad you are not going ro the south island"! It is much more scenic and interesting. Mount Cook and the glacier is a great area. Milford Sound was awesome even in the rain. There must have been 10000 waterfalls coming off the cliffs when we did the boat ride. We saw huge fields full of huge lupin of every color. I think the kiwis consider lupin a weed but these fields were gorgeous.

Rotorua is a great place for photography. Somewhat like Yellowstone only the town itself is full of boiling pots, hot water flowing in the streams, geysers, etc. there is a mountain there with one side blown out similar to Mt. St. Helen's.

Try to make it to the Everglades down by Homestead. The Anhinga Trail is a great spot to see Anhingas, Cormorants, Green Herons and a lot of other birds. If you get lucky like we did, you will see Anhinga colts (chicks) on nest very close to the boardwalk. Also continue down to Flamingo and see the ranger there about good trails to walk down in that area. Kayaking is also good down there for Brown Pelicans, White Pelicans and lots of shorebirds. The Tamiami Trail (hwy 41) is a great drive for birds. Stop at the Big Cypress Vistor's Center for alligators, Wood Storks, Roseate Spoonbills and a lot of other birds.

This is my first time using any photo editor other than the one in iPhoto. I thought I was importing some selected photos that already existed in my iPhoto library so I could practice working on them in LR5.

I just downloaded Lightroom 5 onto my iMac with Yosemite upgrade. My first problem happened immediately. All of my photos in iPhoto are stored on an external hard drive I named "iPhoto External". And they are backed up through Time Machine. When I open LR5 and click on import, I am shown iPhoto External but when when I click on it a message says iPhoto External does not have any photos in it. I have not been able to get beyond this problem. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong would be very helpful?
