My version of Lightroom (non CC version but the standalone version) is current but I am not able to import the raw files from the new a7Riii. Is anyone else having this issue or have any knowledge about it?

I agree with the others. This is a beautiful stunning image of a beautiful stunning model. I especially like (1) the clear sharp focus of her eyes with the catchlight reflections and (2) the high key look on her face and skin while at the same time retaining the detail in her white hat and collar.

Really appreciate your immediate and helpful response. For now, I better search for a recent, quality Canon 500mm f/4L EF IS I. I suspect you will hear from other "Hoger" members who are searching for a nearly new II. Best to you and yours for 2018!

Best to you too. 👍 Good luck with your search.

Trying to determine if any Hedgehogers have a quality Canon 500mm f/4 lens for sale with the manufacture code of X,Y,Z,A,B,C,D (referring only to 2009 and beyond) for sale. Difficult to get the eBay salers to declare the manufacture code.

I have a "Canon 500mm f/4L EF IS II (USM) Lens" that I bought new from B&H Photo on February 13, 2013 for $10,399. They now sell new for $8,999. By your reference to "2009 and beyond", I interpreted that as 2009 or more recent. I have been considering selling this lens for a while if I can get a reasonable price for it. It has minimal use and is in like new condition including the hard case and box it came in. It also has the Really Right Stuff replacement mount on it.

I'm not sure where to find the manufacturer code. Also, I'm not sure about the best method for sale and shipping that would be safe for both you and me.

My main use of the Hoodman Loupe is when I'm doing architectural / real estate photography using live view on one of my DSLRs to focus precisely and to review images. I can see it also being used for landscape photography. Under certain circumstances like bright sun and light reflections on the LCD, the Hoodman Loupe really helps A LOT. The magnification - both on DSLR LCD and on the Hoodman helps with old eyes too.

The strap is a neck strap. Very handy for me.

I do not need the Hoodman Loupe when using Sony A7RII or A9 since the viewfinder pretty much eliminates the need for it.

You are so right. The most rewarding (emotional, not financial) events I have photographed are for organizations that have been created for disadvantaged kids. In particular for me, Spina Bifida and Make-a-Wish groups.

I have that same equipment mix and shoot high school basketball games. The lighting is terrible and the action is fast. I push the ISO up as high as needed to get about 1/500 on the shutter and f2.8 then I use Lightroom noise reduction to reduce reduce noise. Typically I am at ISOs greater than 10000. LR noise reduction is very effective.

I agree. I have that equipment and software too.

Certainly no issue for me. I'm not the original poster though.

Another thing I didn't include earlier -
The 1DX is very loud. Much louder than the 7DII that you're familiar with. So loud it has made me self conscious and embarrassed in certain situations. I don't know if the Mark II is the same. The a9 is quiet or silent.

I just got the a9 so haven't used it a whole lot. I've also got the Sony a7RII and a7SII and Canon 1DX, 5D4, 5D3 & 7DII. I'm not a large man - about 155 pounds. (All that just for a frame of reference.)

These are some of my thoughts. Others may have differing opinions.

CANON
I rarely use my 1DX even for sports. I prefer using my 5D4. The 1DX is heavy ... especially with an RRS L bracket and a 70-200 or larger lens attached. It also feels large and heavy in my hands. I also prefer the higher resolution in the 5D series over the 1D series. The 5D4 is only about one frame per second faster than the 5D3 but feels faster to me and fast enough for most of my needs. When I have used the 1DX, I rarely used the fast mode - even for football, basketball and volleyball. Just so many images to go through. Main points on 1DX (that will apply to the 1DXII you are considering) - great camera, large, heavy, super fast, also amazing AF and battery life is VERY long.

SONY
I ordered the Sony a9 because I am so in love with the a7RII. My two favorite cameras are the a7RII and the Canon 5D4. I love using the Sonys with lenses up to 135mm in physical size. I've only used the new 70-200 f/2.8 GM on the a9 a little bit and do love what it can do, but I do miss the feel of my Canon 5DIV with the Canon 70-200. The Canon set-up is heavier but my grip on that 5DIV body feels right and natural. The Sony a9 feels like I'm struggling to hold onto it with that 70-200 attached. It's something I will force myself to get used to - partially by using my left hand for more support. And despite what I said about so many images to go through with the 1DX, I will definitely explore the 20 fps this coming sports season. Sony has come a long way in its EVF. The early NEXs were not very good in my opinion. This a9 EVF is amazing. And the Eye AF is astonishing. Main points on Sony a9 - great camera, small light body, better controls and battery life over a7 series, EVF best yet, great AF, Eye AF.

Some more thoughts:
Unless I'm absolutely ready with my Sony a-series cameras in a ready to shoot mode, I can grab a shot much quicker with my Canon DSLRs.

The EVF on the a9 with its "what you see is what you get" is the way of the future. I set my exposure dials as: front dial - shutter speed, back dial - aperture, back wheel - ISO. I just have to be careful to not shift ISO by inadvertently moving the wheel.

I hope that helps a bit more than it confuses.
