If your considering the Vanguard for macro work, You should try one out before buying. Also , I found a ball head impossible to use for macro (at least for me). I found the Vanguard a little too flexible for the macro work I do. I went with a Giottos of similar design but more robust. I also went with Manfrotto 327RC2 and 3265 joystick design. I use the Manfrotto 3265 most of the time. I also use the Giottos with a gimble for my 150-500. Just my opinion, your use may differ from mine.

I recently watched a video where the moderator said that using the live view function on his Canon raised the mirror, thereby eliminating camera vibration with the final shot. I decided to try it out on my D7100 and was a bit confused by the outcome. I used two separate tests:

1) set the mirror up function and removed the lens to see what actually took place.
2)reset the mirror up function and did the same thing using the live function.

When I viewed the results in each case when the 'door' opened, each visually looked different. I guess my question is if the live view really does eliminate camera vibration as does the mirror up feature. Any help would be appreciated.

corpsol, DON't compare the operation of a Canon to a Nikon.

The OP is asking about a Nikon D7100, NOT a Canon .

Nice finds. If your Plume moths are as small as the ones in the U.S., they are not only hard to find, but very hard to photograph. Well done.

Excellent stack! So, is that three photo bombers? or just one in three frames? They/it doesn't seem to distract from the subject...much
Thanks Macronaut. I'm thinking just one. It appears in 4 consecutive frames (about 6 seconds apart) in the different locations.

Superb, indeed! Only exception -- not thrips, but some tiny bugs (Hemiptera). Head's not right, very characteristic for thrips; ditto abdomen. Not enough to even guess a family, but since they were interlopers anyway ...
Thanks for the correction on the ID. I appreciate you looking & commenting.

May I ask how you attach your d7100 to the PB-5 bellows?
I don't remember where I got my info that it was OK. Only glitch, you have to rotate the camera mount on the bellows to the vertical position to mount the camera, then rotate back to the horizontal position. I also used my D 7000 on it . No apparent problems.

Thank you. I will retest at 400mm with and without the extender and then I will crop the photo w/o the extender and compare. That will answer my question. I will post the results later today.

As has been stated, The photo without TC IS sharper than the photo with the TC. My question, did you "fine tune" the lens with the TC attached? It will probably make a visible difference.

After searching the web, I'm still not sure what is best. Some say PSE 9 has a few features that are not included in PSE 14. Need UHH advice. Thanks in advance for your input.

Green bee was dead but the flower (and Thrips) were alive. Quite a surprise! I used a Nikon D 7100 + Nikon PB-5 bellows + 50 mm f 2.8 EL Nikkor (Enlarger lens) reversed. Magnification was ~1.9:1. I stacked 63 frames in Zerene Stacker (DMap + PMax touch up)

Yet, the lens caught the bee working; with ethereal wings beating at 230 times a minute; hovering; calculating; maneuvering; finely-gauging a flexible flight path . . . ; frankly, this bee was multitasking.

The bee was indeed multitasking, eating and then finally breaking free from the grip of the flower, as it was stuck onto the pollinia (pollen sacks, which are hanging from the bee's feet) of the flower which looks like a Swamp Milkweed. If your interested in a more details, check out this link. Nature is indeed interesting.
