Actually on a tripod is where the articulating screen really shines instead of the top window.
It not only points up but at several angles including forward and is easier to read.

It's another option which doesn't do any harm. In fact for tripod-mounted shots the top window may save a lot of stooping and neck-straining.

I always thought the top window would be a good feature for learners because it would encourage them to keep an eye on the exposure settings. Funnily enough it's the top end cameras that usually have it.

I don't miss that top window at all. I just rotate the back screen to see for tripod mounted shots

I use 10 on desktop and happy with it. Bought laptop with Windows 11 and they force you to use Bing for search engine if you want Chrome. I still have chrome symbol but it goes to Bing. I have had same happen on desktop W10 but know how to change it. W11 has ommitted route to change. I have read it may be possible to change W11 but havn't tried yet, more difficult. Some other apps may not work on W11 and require buying new version, check your apps before getting W11.

I don't have that problem. Chrome is a web browser and is an icon on my desktop and comes right up. Bing is a search engine, Like Google. So I am a little confused as to your problem because you are comparing apples and oranges. Set Chrome as your default and your problem will be gone

A LOT OF TRUTH TO YOUR STATEMENT. MS WINDOWS is a lot of not ready for prime time OS that uses its user to find all the bugs for updates to keep it staple. Computer manufacturers should have more standards on hardware and software like Apple does a better job at that keep their computers stable.

To whom are you replying? Use the quote reply feature. I think you are an Apple fan. Apple is perfectly capeable of bricking their products

I have no reason to upgrade, so I'm waiting until I have no choice.

I wonder why they stopped calling their OS Windows 10. I thought that was going to be the end of the numbering. Microsoft has a history of bad odd-numbered Windows.

Jerry I was like you. That was until I installed a new video card. Sometimes it wouldn't start up. Strange it was and then other weird things would start to happen to with my Win 10 that nobody could put a finger on. So I decided to let Win11 fly. All the old problems went away and everything works just fine only faster. As for Lightroom and Photoshop and all the components no problem at all

It always best to do things so that they cause the maximum pain. At high magnifications auto focus is, however, useless.

Yes. Agreed and I understand this well. My question is what do most people do, move camera or subject? Seems to me that it’s more work for the stacking gear to move a heavy camera and lens, than the subject.

The subject and camera do not have to move. If you do move the camera there is is a change in perspective. If you focus on different areas of the subject no change in perspective and the software has less of a chance of screwing up

Your Z9, Z7, and D850 all do focus stacking automatically so why would you even want to move either the camera or the subject? What's the point?

Right you do not have to move the camera to do focus stacking. Focus stacking is used to achieve a deep depth of field by blending (or stacking) several images together. Each stacked shot is focused in a different spot, so the combined depth of field is deeper than the depth of field produced by any of the individual images.

Kind of sounds like the type of response one gets from the VA or the IRS

Personally, the fact that they had "an inordinate amount of items returned" gives me pause as far as ordering anything from them. What does that say about the quality control of their suppliers? Of course there are other reasons for returning a purchase. Perhaps they have had a rash of incidents where they sent the wrong item but even that is an alarming possibility. Yes, shit happens but when the amount of shit is exceptionally large then it is hard to trust the business.

Are you saying the major camera manufacturers have quality control issues?

For my heavier lens camera combinations I use either a gimbal head of a fluid head. Ball heads just don't seem to do the trick for me.

For my heavier camera/lens combinations, I use a harness. The harness distributes the weight across your shoulders . If you have all that weight hanging around your neck for more that a short length of time you are going to feel it.
